2020 Volkswagen Passat - All you need to know

If the discussion is going on about the C-segment sedans in Malaysia, the name of the VW Passat will surely arise. It is one of the most popular sedans in the country as its demand is increasing day by day.

In September 2018, the 2020 VW Passat (B8.5 Volkswagen Passat facelift) was spotted in the prototype front at first. After around half a year, the car was finally revealed in February 2019. The Malaysian market has witnessed its launch at the starting of 2020.

Speaking of the sedan, it comes with a good amount of power under the hood, even though the fuel efficiency is decent. The extended boot and long hood make the design luxurious. Also, the impressive set of safety features never let you down in front of its competitors. 

Price

While the sedan was previously available in three trims, the refreshed model will only be offered in a single trim, the 2.0 TSI Elegance. Here is a look at 2020 Volkswagen Passat price list :

2020 VW Passat specs sheet features a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine. As mentioned in the table, the sedan comes with a new seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission that is paired with front-wheel drive. What about the fuel-efficiency? It is 15.38 kmpl according to the new Worldwide Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle. So with a fuel tank of 66-litres, the 2020 VW Passat has an overall driving range of more than 1,000 Km at one go.

Exterior

2020 VW Passat comes with certain revisions. The sedan gets a dual-slat grille that carries a new design. It has the IQ Light Matrix LED headlights system having LED DRL. To make the riding safer than before, the system incorporates dynamic cornering light and dynamic range control. There are air intakes having a new design and just under the front fog lights, the ‘wing’ design is present having body-colored strip.

Coming to the rear, the 2020 VW Passat features taillights having triple L-shaped graphics and the indicators are sequential. The sedan also comes with a redesigned rear bumper and the diffuser-like insert is sharper than before. In the middle of the powered boot lid, there is a Passat badge. Interior

Getting inside the 2020 VW Passat, there is a digital cockpit having multiple information themes. There is a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, while the centre analogue clock is removed. There are redesigned door cards, and manual rear sun blinds that hide the rear panels.

The sedan features a new Discover Pro infotainment system that comes with a 9.2-inch touchscreen. It features customisable three-view split-screen function and has voice and gesture control.  The infotainment system has a new Wireless AppConnect system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay. The 2020 VW Passat comes with USB-C ports at the front as well as the rear.

With new aesthetics, the interior of the 2020 VW Passat does not fail to make your ride comfortable. Furthermore, the ambient lighting having 30 colour options gives a pleasing feel in the cockpit. 

Safety

Speaking of the safety features, the 2020 VW Passat comes with some quality equipment like six airbags, ISOFIX seats, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), slide assist lane change system and protective passenger protection system. 

While changing the lanes on the highway, the slide assist helps the driver a lot. It warns the driver against potential risk by signaling on the relevant wing mirror. If the driver or the system itself initiates a potential hazard, the seatbelts of the front passenger and driver will be tightened automatically in order to give the best possible protection.

2020 VW Passat vs Honda Civic

Honda Civic is one of the best sedans in the Malaysian market. It is priced between RM 108,165 and RM 128,631. It is lesser than the 2020 VW Passat. The features that Civic offers and the design along with the safety features would not justify the price tag.

What about the power output? 2020 VW Passat wins here as Civic comes with two engine options as a 1.8-litre petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill. The former is capable of churning out a maximum power of 141 PS and the peak torque is 174 Nm. On the other hand, latter comes with 173 PS of power, and the peak torque is 220 Nm. So it is clear that the VW Passat is well ahead.

Volkswagen Passat is very powerful, for sure. Plus, the quality of being a sophisticated sedan makes it even more desirable. The long hood and extended boot design make it look grand and luxurious. Added to that, the safety features are quite on the brighter side, making the car a wonderful value for the money paid.
