2022 BMW 2 Series Active Tourer debuts in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is quite a popular compact luxury MPV in the European market that has led the Munich-based automaker to roll out its second generation. It recently pulled the wraps off the all-new Euro-spec 2 Series Active Tourer featuring a bold new look, new underpinnings, a new engine lineup, and a raft of enhanced technology. Let’s discuss them in detail.
The MPVs new and bold look starts with a massive kidney grille flanked by sleeker LED headlights. The latter can be paired with optionally available adaptive matrix tech. At the rear, we can observe a cleaner look as the exhaust tip is now positioned below the bumper and the tail lights are now slimmer lending the vehicle a more modern stance. Also, parts of the kit are a more rakish windscreen, refreshed flush door handles, and lower side mirrors providing better aerodynamics. The standard alloy wheels measure 16- or 17-inch, however, these can be upgraded to 19-inches.
In terms of dimensions, the new 2 Series Active Tourer is 32 mm longer, 24 mm wider, and 21 mm taller than before, BMW claims the increased height offers a better shoulder room, headroom, and rear legroom over the predecessor.
Moving inside, here the model gets a number of modifications that are inspired by the brand’s new electric SUV, the iX. These include BMW Curved Display, comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.7-inch infotainment unit. The latter runs on BMW Operating System 8 and is mated to the GPS navigation system, Intelligent Personal Assistant, 5G connectivity Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Further, the car benefits from a floating armrest, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, a dual-zone air-conditioning system, redesigned seats wrapped with Sensatec or Vernasca leather upholstery, and lots of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
The list of available engine options mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission include:
- 218i comes with a turbocharged 1.5-litre unit making 136 hp and 230 Nm
- 220i has a similar setup with an increased output of 154 hp and 240 Nm
- 223i is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-popper mill generating 201 hp and 320 Nm
- 218d is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cyl with 148 hp and 360 Nm
Adding to the list are two plug-in hybrid variants that the automaker will be launching next year.
The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will hit the European markets next year in February to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
