Auto Expo 2020: GWM Haval H9 full-size SUV revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: GWM, Great Wall Motors brings the full-size SUV Haval H9 in India. Owned by GWM, Haval is a Chinese automaker that’s all set to challenge the likes of Indian full-size SUVs like Ford Everest, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the Toyota Fortuner. The automaker had teased the H9 before for the Indian market and it is likely that we might see its launch soon.

An interesting move from the automaker is that the full-size H9 will come only with a petrol engine, 2.0-litre turbocharged that is capable of churning out a max power of 215 PS and a peak torque of 324 Nm. It’s interesting because all the major SUVs in India are diesel-powered. However, we might see a diesel engine coming in later at GWM’s discretion.

Talking about the design, it is a long, tall beast with a powerful road presence, features a big chrome grille at the front with traditional designing. The tail lamps are oversized too, but the wheels are tiny as compared to the stance it gets. We are yet to see the interior of the SUV.

On the features front, it’s bold and desirable. It gets dual-zone climate control, a digital instrument cluster, massaging, heated, ventilated and power-operated seats and a sunroof. For safety, the company has blessed it with features like hill start assist, hill descent control seven airbags and ABS with EBD.

It would be interesting to see how the buyers in India react as they prefer diesel-powered SUVs than petrol. However, with more stringent emission rules and the 10-year registration rule, buyers might want to buy a petrol SUV.

The Haval H9, upon launch, is likely to feature a price of around Rs 30 lakh (RM 1,73,731 approx).
