Bentley Continental GT Convertible previewed in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bentley Continental GT Convertible was unveiled last year in November, and now the car is being previewed at Bentley Kuala Lumpur. The top-drop version of the third-gen coupe showcases the same specifications and mechanicals as the hard-top model.

The said preview is held only for a select few individuals, and they got to see a left-hand drive pre-production unit. The on-display car was finished in an attractive light blue metallic shade called Silverlake. The soft-top model stood on 21-inch five 3-spoke machined wheels.

The unique bit comes in the form of Centenary Specification accouterments that are being shown for the first time locally. As can be predicted by its name, the said package includes a specific Centenary logo on all Bentley badging and scuff plates. Also, it is projected from the puddle lamps.

On the inside, the vehicle displays Bentley Rotating Display, Linen leather upholstery, Dark Stained Madrona veneer finish on panellings, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, three analogue dials, 20-way Comfort Seats, and 2,200-watt Naim audio system with 18-speakers.

Powering the Bentley Continental GT Convertible is the same hard-top model powering 6.0-litre W12 twin-turbo, direct-injection mill that churns out 626 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 900 Nm at 1,350 to 4,500 rpm. The GTC can make the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds (a tenth of sec slower than the coupe) and can attain a top speed of 333 kmph, same as the hard-top sibling.

According to Bentley, the roof on the GTC is more refined than the one seen on the predecessor. It is said to offer better sound insulation at cruising speeds and can retract/deploy in 19 seconds at up to 50 kmph.

Like the hard-top version, the Continental GT Convertible comes fitted with Bentley Dynamic Ride, and Continuous Damping Control (CDC). The car on display has the City Specification package on that includes reverse traffic warning, hands-free boot opening, a top-view camera, pedestrian warning, and city braking.

The Touring Specification pack is also on offer that includes night vision with an infra-red camera, pre-sense braking, bundles adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display.

The price of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible starts at RM 2.24 million excluding insurance, road tax, and registration.
