BYD Atto 3 arrives in Malaysia, price starts at RM 149,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost two months after signing the distribution agreement with Sime Darby Motors, BYD has launched its first electric vehicle in the local market, called the Atto 3. The EV has been on preview at Bandar Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur for the whole weekend where interested folks can take the EV’s test drive and participate in the other exciting activities.

Let’s get to know the new Chinese EV in detail, starting with variants and price details -

The official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, BYD SD Motors Malaysia, is offering the Atto 3 in two variants - Standard and Extended, priced at RM 149,800 and RM 167,800, respectively. The prices are on-the-road excluding insurance. 

BYD Atto 3 powertrain, range, and charging

Both variants of the Chinese electric crossover are powered by the same single electric motor that churns out a maximum power of 201 hp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels, enabling the EV to hit the century sprint in 7.3 seconds. 

What sets the two variants apart is the battery pack and range. The lower-spec Standard Range model utilises a 49.92-kWh unit offering a WLTP-claimed range of 345 km while the Extended Range variant comes equipped with a 60.48-kWh pack that let the EV cruise up to 420 km (WLTP) on a single charge. As for charging, the Atto 3 supports both AC and DC fast charging.

The new Chinese EV looks stylish with several modern bits, including LED headlights, chrome trims, striking crease lines, and “bird wing” like LED tail lights. Also part of the exterior kit is 18-inch wheels (17-inch as standard), roof rails, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, and a powered tailgate exclusively with the Extended version.

Dimensionally, the EV is 4,455 mm long, 2,050 mm wide, 1,615 mm tall, and has a 2,720 mm long wheelbase. It comes in five colour tones - Parkour Red, Ski White, Surf Blue, Boulder Grey, and Forest Green.

The EV’s cabin is appealing and quirky thanks to the modern, premium-looking dashboard and several unique elements like a unique gear lever inspired by an aircraft, unusual door handles, guitar-like strings on the door panels to hold stuff, a treadmill-style central armrest, dumbbell-inspired air vents, and more.

In terms of safety, the new Chinese electric SUV comes packed with a number of advanced systems like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Vehicle Hold, Automatic Emergency Braking, Hill Descent Control, Front Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and more.
