Check out the up for auction, super rear 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR
KUALA LUMPUR: The 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Strassenversion is one of the most impressive supercars of the ‘90s. Its name might be quite a handful, but what’s the deal here is that what it represents? A pinnacle of German auto engineering, it also has quite a backstory.
This one is actually a riff on the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR race car that dominated the 1997 and ‘98 FIA GT championships. Also, the ‘street version’ or Strassenversion was sought-after among its 25 only collectors.
The particular 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR that is up for auction at the Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction will be presented in pristine condition and was the 9th model to roll out the production line.
What powers the up for auction, 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR?
The car draws power from a 6.9-litre naturally-aspirated V12 mill that generates a maximum power of 604 hp along with a peak torque of 776 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a paddle-shifted six-speed Xtrac sequential transaxle.
The power helps the car touch the 100 kmph mark in just 3.8 seconds and it rockets to a top speed of 344 kmph.
Although the car comes packed with the same wishbone suspension as its trach twin, the auction model gets higher ride height, softer dampers and springs. Furthermore, the 23-year old car has seen several drivers and has 1442 km on the dial.
The car will also feature all the original finishes, including the retro dash with analogue gauges.
How much will it fetch at the auction?
The Gooding & Company expects the car to hammer between $8.5 million and $10 million at the upcoming auction that will be held from August 13-14.
Think it’s too expensive? Well, note that back in the ‘97, it was the most expensive production car at $1.5 million.
