Coronavirus (Covid-19) effect: List of OEMs who declared shut down till March 31

The series of events and auto shows getting cancelled has already created a ruckus in the auto industry. Now, one after the other, various dealerships and production facilities are also ceasing their operations, though temporarily, but this will witness a complete shutdown. As you will read further, the news will slightly shake you about the seriousness of this pandemic and why it has caused the economy to come at a halt.

Read on to find out about the OEMs who have declared temporary shutdown, until March 31.

1. Proton to shut all business operations until March 31

The Malaysian government has issued a public order for Movement Control effective March 18th to March 31st 2020, all showrooms, service centers and customer care services shall cease operations.
Proton said that it will halt all its sales and after-sales operations as well as all production activities at its Tanjung Malim and Shah Alam plants from March 18 to 31. This move is a conscious effort to help control the spread of coronavirus.

Modenas Malaysia ceases operations

2. Modenas Malaysia to cease operations until March 31

To follow the Malaysian government’s movement control order, Modenas Malaysia has temporarily ceased activities at all branches and service centers as well as its headquarters in Shah Alam. Though the shutdown is temporary till March 31, we cannot anticipate it to extend any further, in case the current situation worsens.
Modenas deeply regrets the inconvenience that will be caused to its customers. Any further details and updates will be posted on Modena’s Facebook page.

The movement control order from the Malaysian Prime Minister witnessed overseas travel restrictions, closure of educational institutions and shutting down of all non-essential public services.

Mazda Malaysia SHUT DOWN

3. Mazda Malaysia announced shutting down all sales and after-sales operations until March 31

Mazda Malaysia has also announced that in order to adhere to the government’s order for movement control, its dealership showrooms and service centers will observe complete shutdown. Presumably, its Kulim production plant will also cease operations until March 31.

In cases where emergency assistance is required during the period, Mazda customers’ can contact its Zoom-Zoom line at 1-800-22-8080 or its 24-hour roadside assistance service at 1-800-18-8011.

4. Edaran Tan Chong Motor ceases operations till March 31

Another OEM to join the wagon of automakers who are shutting down operations to adhere to government orders for movement control is Nissa. Its sales and service centers operated by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) and Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis (TCEAS), will cease operations, temporarily till March 31, to contain the coronavirus spread.

Nissan customers who have vehicle delivery scheduled from April onwards, shall be contacted for rescheduling of delivery appointments. Besides that, Nissan service advisors will also reschedule service appointments, by contacting customers through Call, SMS or DriveOn app. For any further assistance, customers can contact Nissan Motors via e-mail.

Perodua production halted

5. Perodua production facility to halt operations till March 31

Perodua has also announced the suspension of its operations at its head office, manufacturing facility, sales and after-sales services. All operations shall remain ceased until March 31, till any further update is received from the Malaysian government.

Owing to this, all new vehicle deliveries and body painting services shall resume only after the government orders are lifted.
Vehicle assistance shall continue to be available and Perodua customers in need of assistance can call the Perodua Auto Assist toll-free line on 1-800-88-5555.

6. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia shuts down all dealership showrooms and sale service centers

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced the shutting down of all its showrooms and service centers from March 18 to 31 in adherence to movement control order recently issued by the government.

For customer support, its 24-hour emergency assistance service will remain operational and can be contacted by calling 1-800-88-2166 or 03-2161 0246.

7. Touch ‘n Go RFID centers closed until March 31:

Touch ‘n Go RFID fitment centers, TNG Hubs and Customer Experience Centers will observe a complete shutdown till March 31 in order to support the Malaysian government’s efforts in curbing the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Reloading services will still be available at self-service kiosks and at petrol stations. Other than this, users can use PayDirect to reload their wallets. Such measures are necessary to safeguard the best interests of health and wellbeing of employees and customers.
However, the local public transport shall operate at its normal course, but strict monitoring will be done to ensure optimum frequency schedules.

Honda dealership closed

8. Honda dealership and factory closed until March 31

Honda Malaysia has also confirmed that it will be ceasing all business operations until March 31, subject to further orders from the government.

As a result of this shutdown, all Honda plants at Pegoh, Melaka and its sales office in Petaling Jaya will be closed during this period. All dealership showrooms will also be under lockdown. However, its roadside assistance service will still be offered and can be contacted by calling 1-800-18-1177.

Triumph shuts down

9. Triumph also shuts down operations for COVID-19

Triumph Malaysia is also closing its sales and service departments in compliance from March 18 to March 30.

Any additional information on Triumph Malaysia operations will be done via social media as well as the Triumph Malaysia website. Customers are requested to check the Facebook and Instagram page for Triumph Malaysia for further updates.

 Volkswagen ceases operations

10. Volkswagen ceases operations till March 31

In a recent announcement, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) said that it is closing its dealerships as well as service centres across the country starting today, i.e., March 18 to 31. Further updates check VPCM’s official website, social media channels, and Volkswagen Cares app

 Yamaha halts business

11. Yamaha halts business operations

In light of Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak along with the government’s two-week movement control period order, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor has announced that it has halted business operations. 

12. Porsche rescheduled showroom visits, test drive, and all service appointments until March 31

Sime Darby Auto Performance, the importer and distributor of Porsche in Malaysia, has rescheduled showroom visits, test drive, and all service appointments until March 31. In case of emergency assistance, customers can contact Porsche Assistance hotline at 1-800-80-1117, it’ll be a service 24 hours a day. 

Toyota ceases operations

13. UMW Toyota ceases its day-to-day operations

All Toyota and Lexus dealerships across Malaysia will cease their day-to-day operations beginning today, March 18. However, all centres will remain contactable to the customers. If needed, you may contact Toyota @ 1800-8-869682 and Lexus @ 1800-88-53987. 

14. Mercedes-Benz suspends of all operations and activities

Post the implementation of the movement control by the government Mercedes-Benz Malaysia and Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia have announced a suspension of all operations and activities from March 18 to 31.

 Renault closes all showrooms

15. Renault closes all showrooms and service centres

All Renault showrooms and service centres will remain close starting March 18 till March 31st. Customers can contact TC Euro Cars via its website, for general enquiries can call 1-800-18-8663, and for on-the-spot breakdown assistance can contact 1-800-88-8663.

16. Kawasaki pauses all operations till 31st March

Kawasaki is pausing all its operations owing to the movement control order by the prime minister. The company will resume operations on April 1. 

It is evident that Malaysia is observing a complete lockdown situation as per government orders. This is done due to the severity of the gruesome situation the world is currently facing. Hope such measures help curb the spread of Coronavirus, if not completely eradicate it.
