Kuala Lumpur: Ford is well known for its advancement in technologies. Staying true to this, the manufacturer has unveiled its new concept known as 1.0- litre Ecoboost engine at the Detroit Motor Show 2016. With this concept, the company is aiming to revolutionize the auto industry. The Ecoboost Technology has become quite popular due to the fact that it results in a highly efficient mileage along with decent power numbers. Ecoboost technology can be defined as an arrangement of turbocharger unit and direct fuel injection system that works together to provide better fuel efficiency without the loss of engine power.

Ford’s new 1.0- litre  Ecoboost three-cylinder concept engine is lightweight than its standard version and can run on two cylinders by deactivating the middle cylinder through the cylinder deactivation technology that effectively increases the fuel efficiency around 4.5 percent. The concept engine has been under development for one year. Due to this, the brand is able to reduce its overall weight by 15.5 percent than its predecessor standard unit. In total, the Ford has redesigned five major components namely connecting rods, cylinder head, cylinder block, oil pan and front cover.

Furthermore, the half part of the cylinder head, front cover and oil pan are built with carbon fibre materials while the connecting rods are manufactured from forged aluminium that contribute to shed 40 percent weight than its standard unit and weighs 40 kg. Several structure and assembly techniques are also used, which help improve NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) levels along with the weight reduction. The company has also been researching ‘cylinder deactivation technology’ on its new lightweight concept engine in order to make more fuel efficient by shutting down the middle cylinder.
