Ford GT40 1969 Le Mans Winner 1:8 scale model revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Commemorating the Ford GT40's remarkable win at the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans against Porsche, the Amalgam Collection rolled out its 1:8 scale model. The Architectural and engineering model maker based in England took a total of 24 months in preparing this recreational car that measures 20 inches in length.
Decked in the beloved Gulf Oil livery, the Ford GT40 1:8 scale model looks absolutely stunning, pretty enough to impress auto enthusiasts as well as fans of Ford. This extraordinarily detailed model is based on chassis #1075, with an exact depiction of the car that raced to victory at Le Mans in 1969 by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver. They beat Hans Hermann’s Porsche 908 by just 120 metres after 372 laps. The year 1966 marked the beginning of the GT40 legend, which was followed by three more wins, which established the model as one of the most iconic racing cars of all time.
To perfectly recreate the iconic No. 6 Ford GT40, the company worked closely with the Ford Archive, Heritage department, and Gulf Oil International. The whole research and development work took a total of two years or over 4,000 hours.
The Ford GT40 1:8 scale model is hand-built and assembled by a team of seasoned craftsmen which takes around 400 hours to build each example. It involves thousands of precisely engineered parts: castings, photo-etchings, and CNC machined metal components.
Limited to just 199 examples, the Ford GT40 1969 Le Mans Winner 1:8 scale model is now available to order at an eye-brow raising price of $13,048 (approximately equal to RM 55,229).
