Fourth-generation Skoda Octavia revealed

KUALA LUMPUR: Skoda has taken the wraps off the new Octavia, which enters its fourth generation. It is Skoda’s best selling car worldwide, and in this update, it has gained a lot of styling cues to make the car sharper. The new car is now bigger and features an all-new dashboard layout having some latest technology.

Design-wise, the fourth generation Octavia gets a large hexagonal grille, and each of its edges contains slimmer headlights having full-LED lighting technology. The later can be upgraded to the matrix technology. Underneath the headlights, there is a single full-width air intake along with LED fog lights. Furthermore, a crisp shoulder line connects the front and rear wheel arches. At the rear, the angular full-LED tail lights having the C-shaped graphics are featured.

Inside the 2020 Octavia, it gets a considerable modification. It features a layered dashboard design, where a freestanding touchscreen is placed just above a divot. It is the new soft-touch material that is used in the dashboard and door cards.

The car comes with Volkswagen’s modular infotainment matrix (MIB) based infotainment system. There are four touchscreen options based on the size, from 8.25 or 10 inches. Also, the 10.25-inch digital instrument display, along with a head-up display, is present as an option.

Speaking of the mechanical department, a range of turbocharged TDI diesel or TSI petrol engines are provided that can offer a maximum power of 190 PS. There are two new “Evo” petrol mills too - a 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill providing 100 PS of power and a 1.5-litre four-pot that offers 150 PS power. Moreover, a 1.5-litre G-TEC natural gas can also be provided that can make a maximum power of 130 PS. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DSG.

Also, the 2020 Skoda Octavia will come with an iV plug-in hybrid system. The system contains a 1.4-litre TSI engine, a 13 kWh battery, and a 75 kW electric motor. The engine can push out a maximum power of 156 PS. On the other hand,

the engine, along with the motor, is capable of churning out a maximum power of 204 PS, while the peak torque is 350 Nm. The battery can provide an all-electric range of 55 km. The power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed DSG.
