Genesis Essentia concept breaks cover at 2018 New York  Auto Show

KUALA LUMPUR: The popular New York International Auto Show witnessed the release of many new crossovers. Amidst multiple crossovers, Genesis, however, presented something different. The posh brand rolled out yet another concept, Essentia, giving a buck to the latest trend of crossover cars.

Essentia Concept

This is the first time that the Korean automaker has released a coupe to the public. The Essentia has a sleek sporty appearance and comes as a two-door coupe.

The design philosophy that Essentia follows involves a classic grand touring coupe formula with a long hood and a short rear deck. The car gives an impression of an all-glass roof. This illusion arises due to the pillars behind the glass area of the car. The overall appearance of the glass forms a smooth flowing outline. The car is just 1,270 mm tall and has a stylish low-slung concept. The body of the car is thoughtfully comprised of carbon fiber panels.

Essentia Cabin

The interior of the car is equally stunning. It comes with butterfly doors which swing’s outwards and showcases the wraparound cockpit. The brand calls the theme ‘Elegant De-cluttering’, a minimalistic approach. It comes with low-slung seats which come with a thick-rim. A flat-bottom steering wheel is installed for the driver to ride with ease. To make things easier, the complete panel comprises of the screen displaying relevant information to the driver. For unbeatable performance, Genesis has equipped the car with efficient electric motors.

The brand has currently three sedans in its lineup. This range consists of the D-segment G70, E-segment G80, and F-segment G90. Experts are wondering if this means the return of a Genesis coupe.

In January, Woong-Chul Yang, the vice-chairman of research and development and Luc Donckerwolke, the design vice-president of Hyundai were reported as stating that a two-door from Genesis will be coming soon. Furthermore, the duo-stated that this sports coupe will be a serious performance car and it's what the newly-formed Genesis luxury division needs.
