Gentari, JomCharge & chargEV launch cross-access EV charging in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPURBack in March this year, the energy solutions providers Gentari, Yinson GreenTech (ChargEV), and EV Connection (JomCharge) made an agreement to offer cross-access charging solutions to Malaysian EV owners on all three platforms. Well, Phase 1 of their joint efforts has now been launched in the form of an integrated “EV Roaming Network”.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What does the EV Roaming Network offer?

The EV Roaming Network offers cross-access charging solutions to Malaysian EV owners on three platforms - Gentari, JomCharge & chargEV.
  • Which locations are included in Phase 1 of the cross-charging solution?

In Phase 1, the cross-charging solution is available at four locations, viz. X Park Sunway Serene, Berjaya Times Square, Suria KLCC, and Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
  • To cross-access the EV chargers, the customers need to install either Setel (Gentari), JomCharge, or ChargEV mobile app. They can access a huge network of 600 chargers installed across the country through one app only. However, earlier customers were required to use separate apps corresponding to each of these three EV charging networks.

All three operators have updated their mobile apps to accommodate the changes, and the customers also need to get their latest versions to access EV Roaming Network. The updated apps not only offer a cross-access charging facility but also have a single payment system through which users can pay and charge instantly for Gentari, JomCharge, and chargEV.

In the first phase, the cross-charging solution is available at four locations, viz. X Park Sunway Serene, Berjaya Times Square, Suria KLCC, and Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The network will expand to 600 chargers in stages. It will cover almost two-thirds of all EV charging points in Malaysia, with more than 150 Gentari points, almost 300 chargEV points, and 100 JomCharge points.
