Honda Accord sedan to be axed in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier this year, Volkswagen Malaysia announced the discontinuation of the Passat sedan with a focus on the more upscale Arteon. And now, it is Honda's turn to pull the plugs on its long-running sedan nameplate in Malaysia, which is the Honda Accord.

During the launch event of the 2023 Honda City facelift, Honda Malaysia MD and CEO Hironobu Yoshimura, announced that the new 11th-gen Accord will not be coming to Malaysia. That means the ongoing 10th-gen model is the final offering for the local market. The D-segment sedan will bow out from showrooms by the end of this year, according to reports.

Well, this is not a big surprise as the sales of the brand in the respective segment have been falling for a while because customers are more inclined towards SUVs lately.

If you’re a die-hard fan of the Honda Accord, this is your last chance to get your hands on it. The sedan is available in two locally assembled variants - 1.5 TC and 1.5 TC-P, priced at RM 187,400 and RM 197,400. Both trims are powered by the same 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, which kicks out a maximum power of 201 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 260 Nm from 1,600 to 5,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT gearbox.
