Honda displays the S660 Neo Classic Racer at 2019 TAS
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon is bringing out some unique and exciting vehicles for sure. Following the suite is Honda, the Japanese auto giant who has put on display the S660 Neo Classic Racer at the event. The S660 Neo Classic Racer is a concept based on the Honda S660. It was announced in the late 2018 and this is the first time we are seeing the retro concept in flesh. The concept displayed at the TAS features a retro design language thanks to all the curves it has got. The car also gets circular LED headlamps and taillights. Another significant change is the stiff metal roof on the S660 Neo Classic Racer opposed to the fabric one on the standard S660.
The front fascia of the concept includes a bulky bumper which houses large air-intakes and wire-mesh grille. Moving to the rear, we find a ducktail spoiler and the rear bumper is also found to be having a wire-mesh grille. The dual exhaust outlet has been placed between the taillamps. All the 4 wheels are sheltered in large, flared, wide arches. For an enhanced racing appearance, the rearview mirrors have been placed on the fenders and the hood gets leather clasp fasteners.
Wrapped in Toyo Proxes 888R are 17-inch Work Meister tyres. The braking duties on the Honda S660 Neo Classic Racer are handled by slotted brake discs and brake callipers from Endless. On the inside of the retro racer, we find a Momo California 3-spoke steering wheel and an aluminium gear knob. Also present is a roll cage and the single seat is from Bride which also has ditched the headrest. While the standard Honda S660 gets its power from a 660 cc 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor, the mechanical details of the S660 Neo Classical Racer have not been revealed. The engine on the S660 produces 65 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 104 Nm. The power delivery duties are handled by a 6-speed manual transmission.
