Honda names its upcoming all-electric urban car ‘Honda e’
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda’s all-electric urban car, which was showcased at this year’s Geneva Motor Show now has a name. It will be henceforth known as the Honda e. The introduction of the urban car is a part of Honda’s “Electric Vision”, under which, it aims to make 100% of the European models electrified by 2025.
In 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the electric car carried the “E prototype” nameplate, and surprisingly, its production version will carry the same name, sans “prototype” obviously. Furthermore, a new teaser for the production version EV has been released to emphasize the name.
Also, Honda had claimed that the “E prototype” is a 90% production-ready model. Which means, the design of the production model will not be much different from the one that was showcased at the auto show.
The manufacturer has not disclosed the technical specification of the ‘Honda e’ yet, neither do we have an idea about its range. However, it should be close to that of “E prototype”, which comes with an overall driving range of 200 kilometres. As for the charging, the battery takes only 30 minutes to charge up to 80%.
Instead of being an electric conversion of an existing model, the all-new Honda e is entirely based on a new architecture developed especially for the EVs. Honda has already hinted that a series of electric vehicles will be based on this platform.
Besides the Honda e, the manufacturer has announced that CR-V and Accord will get the i-MMD dual-motor hybrid system. It also claimed that probably the upcoming smaller segment cars like the fourth-generation Jazz might as well get this system. It will be clear once the manufacturer pulls the wraps off the B-segment hatchback at the Tokyo Motor Show.
