The broader push is clearly meant to reinforce Honda’s hybrid credentials at a time when more brands are crowding into the electrified space.

Honda is leaning on its long-running hybrid experience here, with the e:HEV powertrain already offered in the City, City Hatchback, HR-V, Civic and new CR-V.

The company is also pitching the system as one that still preserves some driving character instead of going all-in on pure efficiency talk.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Narushi Yazaki said, “Honda’s hybrid technology has always been developed with a clear focus – to ensure performance, efficiency, and reliability that customers can confidently depend on every day. At the same time, we believe electrification should not compromise driving enjoyment. Our e:HEV system is engineered to deliver a smooth yet responsive drive, staying true to Honda’s DNA of fun driving.”

“With this innovative system, our hybrid models provide instant torque and seamless acceleration, creating a driving experience that is both engaging and refined. This reflects our commitment to making electrified mobility not only practical and efficient, but also enjoyable for our customers,” Mr. Yazaki added.

As part of the campaign, customers who buy a Honda e:HEV model will get an additional RM2,000 cash rebate, along with free labour service for the first two years. Honda is also tying the campaign to the Prelude launch, as buyers will be entered into a monthly lucky draw for a chance to use the all-new Prelude for a week after its official launch.

Existing Honda hybrid owners are not left out either, as they can join the “Hybrid Done Right” contest by posting their actual one-tank fuel consumption on social media. The best results will receive a one-year free service package.

The more interesting part, of course, is the Prelude itself. Honda has now opened bookings for the all-new model, marking the return of a familiar nameplate that has not been part of the local line-up for a long time.

In Malaysia, the new Prelude will sit as a hybrid sports coupe, and Honda is positioning it as something more driver-focused than the rest of its e:HEV range.

One of the standout features is the introduction of S+ Shift technology, a first for Honda Malaysia. The system works together with Active Sound Control to simulate gearshifts and sharpen the response between the engine and dual electric motors. In simple terms, Honda is trying to give the Prelude a more engaging feel instead of the usual detached hybrid driving experience.

There is also a shift hold function, which is meant to make the car respond more accurately to driver inputs through corners.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre e:HEV setup making 184 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Honda claims the hybrid system is tuned for instant acceleration, linear delivery and better control, which lines up with the Prelude’s role as a more performance-oriented offering rather than just another fuel-saving hybrid.

In terms of size, the all-new Honda Prelude measures 4,522 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,355 mm tall, with a 2,605 mm wheelbase.

Styling details include a low, sleek roofline, flush door handles, a black chrome grille and subtle blue accents on the front and rear bumpers. Other exterior highlights include LED headlights, LED rear combination lights with red lenses, active cornering lights, 19-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes.

Safety kit includes Honda SENSING, plus Blind Spot Information and Cross Traffic Monitor. That gives the Prelude a decent amount of active safety tech, although the real talking point here will probably still be the fact that Honda is bringing back a coupe at a time when most brands are busy churning out SUVs.

Before the official launch, Honda is also running customer preview sessions for the all-new Prelude at selected dealerships around Malaysia.
