Honda Thailand launches 10th generation Accord

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda’s new 10th generation Accord has arrived in Thailand. This time the manufacturer has launched the sedan with three variants. The car’s debut in Thailand indicates Honda’s global beginning of right-hand models for Accord.

The 10th gen Honda Accord is available in two engine options. It is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol mill, which churns out a maximum power of 190 hp and peak torque is at 243 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT-type automatic gearbox.

Another one is the 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid engine, which is a part of the brand’s own dual motor i-MMD hybrid system. The system delivers a maximum power of 215 hp and a peak torque of 315 Nm, while the engine produces only 145 hp power along with 175 Nm of torque. The larger 2.0-litre i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive), two-motor Accord Hybrid, does not need any conventional transmission. Technically, it doesn't have a gearbox.

The Hybrid variant comes with three drive operations - EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive. While driving on the EV Drive, all the power comes from the electric motor. As the name suggests, in the Hybrid Drive mode, both the electric motors and petrol motor are activated, while on the Engine Drive only petrol engine takes charge.

The Thai-spec new-Accord hybrid models come with a lot of features. It has the driver assistance system, which belongs to the Honda Sensing suite. It includes the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System), RDM (Road Departure Mitigation), AHB (Auto High-Beam), LSF (Low-Speed Follow), LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System), LDW (Lane Departure Warning), and ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control).

When it comes to the Honda Malaysia hybrid car market, the locally-assembled models are City Hybrid, HR-V Hybrid, and Jazz Hybrid. All of the models use the 1.5-litre, single motor i-DCD Sport Hybrid system.
