Interior images of RHD Borgward BX5 released

KUALA LUMPUR: The Borgward BX5 is expected to be launched in September this year. However, prior to the official launch, the company has revealed some images of the interior of the car.

The Borgward BX5 was first previewed earlier this month alongside the bigger BX7. However, the displayed model back then was a left-hand drive version. Hence, the images released now looks like the Malaysian-spec model.

The two versions (LHD and RHD) look similar inside the cabin. The images show leather upholstery, electronic hand-brakes along with the auto hold feature, keyless start, free-standing display on the dash, etc. The screen is connected to the infotainment system of the car, which has control buttons on the steering wheel as well. However, the cruise control feature, seen on this RHD model images was absent on the LHD previewed earlier.

Up at the heart of the Borgward BX5 SUV, there is a four-cylinder 1.8-litre engine, and with a turbocharger kicking in, the total power production is claimed at 190 PS along with 280 Nm of torque. The power would be sent down to all the wheels via 6-speed automatic gearbox unit. Though this was the powerplant displayed at LHD version, we can be almost sure that the same would be offered in Malaysia too.

 

However, the Chinese market gets a smaller 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, which is capable of delivering 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. Now it is left to be seen whether this would be offered in Malaysia as an option or not.

Back in May this year, Borgward signed a contract with Go Bremen Motors through which the latter would be handling the production and distribution of all the cars from the company in the Malaysian market, along with certain other ASEAN countries. Based on that, the BX5 was expected to be getting a tentative price of under RM100,000. Also, it would be a CKD unit, and the assembling would be done locally.
