It's Alfa Romeo’s 111th anniversary this weekend

KUALA LUMPUR: Alfa Romeo has come a long way with Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (ALFA) building his first car in 1910. It was ten years later that ALFA was acquired by entrepreneur Nicola Romeo and Campanian engineer, thus becoming Alfa Romeo, as we know it today.

Coming to 2021, Alfa Romeo will be celebrating its 111th anniversary this weekend at The Museo Alfa Romeo. At the event will be its owners and excited fans.

Furthermore, the Italian automaker has a new feather on its cap, as Stellantis (a company formed by the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has booked it as its representative in the premium segment.

Key highlights of the Alfa Romeo 111th anniversary celebration is the group delivery of the first GTAm and Giulia GTA. A total of 500 units of the two cars have been allocated. Speaking of GTA and GTAm, the automaker first used the Gran Turismo Alleggerita moniker in 1965 on the Giulia GTA that saw several wins in various competitions around the world.

Besides, the automaker will also engage with its most passionate customers via networking with key executives. A parade will also take place at the museum's indoor track. The automaker will also be bringing out exclusive engines, trophies and other artifacts that are usually kept hidden.

The activities and car parades for the owners and their family have been planned for the entire weekend. Also, the fans and visitors will be required to wear red.

Alfa Romeo also built two GTA models in the recent era, the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA and 156 GTA. There’s also a MiTo GTA, a concept of transforming the compact into a VW GTI-eclipsing hatch.

The recent GTA model is based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio and is powered by a powerful version of the 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo mill that makes a maximum power of 540 hp. Like all the GTA’s, this one also features lightweight materials like aluminium suspension arms and carbon fibre body panels (detecting 100kg of mass). It gets a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 2.82 kg/hp in the circuit-ready 2-seater GTAm.

On the performance front, the Giulia GTAm can hit the century sprint in just 3.6 seconds with the launch control activated. Also, thanks to the synergy with Suber Engineering, a handful of downforce pushes the car to the track via a large rear spoiler and wider front splitter.
