JAC T9 launched in Malaysia – Diesel & EV Pickup - From RM120k

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Malaysian pickup truck market has just welcomed a new contender – the JAC T9.  This rugged yet feature-packed truck is set to shake up the segment with its combination of performance, technology, and value for money. 

Two Versions – ICE and EV

The JAC T9 isn’t just available as a diesel-powered truck—it also comes in an all-electric version, making it the first pickup in Malaysia to offer both internal combustion engine (ICE) and EV options. This means buyers can choose between traditional power and a future-forward, zero-emission alternative.

Price 

Evolvelectric Motors is maintaining the introductory price of the T9 until the end of the year:

T9 Diesel Variant – RM119,888 (Peninsular Malaysia, on-the-road without insurance)

• 8-year/unlimited mileage engine warranty for the first owner (whichever comes first, subject to service policy).
• 5-year/unlimited mileage vehicle warranty (whichever comes first).

T9 BEV Variant – RM199,888 (Peninsular Malaysia, on-the-road without insurance)

• 6-year/200,000km battery warranty (whichever comes first).

These prices are valid until the end of the year.

A pickup built to work and play

The JAC T9 Grand ES is designed to handle the demands of both business and leisure. Measuring 5,330 mm long, 1,965 mm wide, and 1,920 mm tall, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase, it provides ample space for cargo while ensuring a commanding road presence.

For those who need serious load-hauling capabilities, the T9 offers a 1,000 kg payload capacity and an impressive 3,500 kg towing capacity (with brakes). 

The cargo bucket measures 1,520 mm x 1,590 mm x 470 mm, offering a practical and spacious loading area. Meanwhile, a turning circle of 12.4 meters makes it relatively maneuverable for its size.

Built for off-road adventures, it features a wading depth of 800 mm, ground clearance of 205 mm, and a tub floor ground clearance of 890 mm. Its approach and departure angles of 27° and 23°, respectively, further reinforce its off-road credentials.

Performance and Powertrain

ICE Variant - T9

The ICE variant is powered by a 2.0L inline-four turbodiesel engine, producing 170 PS at 3,600 rpm and 410 Nm between 1,500-2,500 rpm. 

This power is managed by a smooth 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, delivering torque to all four wheels via a part-time 4WD system with a BorgWarner transfer case. 

Off-road capability is further enhanced by an electronically locking rear differential, ensuring maximum traction when needed.

EV Variant 

The all-electric version of the JAC T9 is designed for those looking to transition into the world of emission-free trucking. It features:

• CATL LFP Battery with 88.0 kWh capacity
• 160 kW rear drive motor + 70 kW front drive motor, producing a combined 516 Nm of torque
• 340 km driving range (WLTP)
• 11 kW AC charging and 88 kW DC fast charging
• Intelligent E-shift transmission with 4 driving modes
• Integrated hydraulic brake system
• 140 km/h top speed

Ride, Comfort, and Handling

The T9 is built for both the rugged and comfortable world. A double-wishbone front suspension ensures stability and control, while a multi-link leaf spring rear setup balances durability and ride comfort. 

The electric power steering adds to the ease of manoeuvrability, making city driving and highway cruising more effortless.

Braking is handled by disc brakes on all four wheels, while the 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 265/60R18 tyres provide a sturdy foundation for all terrains.

High-tech and feature-packed cabin

Stepping inside, the JAC T9 is filled with modern goodies. The 7-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto offer a modern driving experience. Convenience features like an electronic gear selector, an electronic parking brake (EPB), and a 360° camera should make driving and parking a breeze.

Advanced safety systems include ABS, EBD, brake override, hill start assist, traction control, stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

On top of that, an impressive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite is included, featuring:

Colour & Warranty

The JAC T9 Grand ES is available in Red, Black, Dark Grey, Silver, and White, with a choice of black or brown interior trims. It is constructed using 48% high-strength steel with reinforced side impact beams, while front recovery hooks rated at 3,100 kg each make it ready for tough conditions.

With its combination of capability, technology, and safety features, the JAC T9 can challenge established players in the Malaysian pickup market, especially when considering other manufacturer's flagship trucks are priced a lot more.
