Meet the China-limited 2021 VW Phideon
KUALA LUMPUR: Some of you might know about the VW Phideon, however, we are sure there is a greater percentage hearing this name for the first time. Well, with no fault of yours, this sedan was developed in China in 2016 under the VW-SAIC joint venture to cater to the market needs. The VW Phideon saw its best year in 2018 when the company sold 24,471 cars before plummeting to 14,019 units in 2019.
The German automaker decided to give the Phideon sedan a minor update, mostly limiting to the design and few additional features. We can assure you no changes are done under the hood. Below is the list of new features on the 2021 Phideon -
- Illuminated VW logo with LED DRLs extending from its sides and meeting the headlights
- New fog lamp casing
- Revised front bumper with chrome inserts
- Small fridge between the rear seats
- Massaging rear seats
- 9.2-inch infotainment touch display
- Head-up display
- Night vision system
Taking about new Phideon's engine configuration, for the 2021 year model VW has dropped two out of three power plants - the 2.0-litre PHEV and 3.0-litre V6 unit. Leaving the customers with the only available option of a 2.0-litre TSI mill making 221 hp and 350 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission.
As per VW-SAIC, the all-new Phideon will get launched in China next month.
