Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster revealed, production limited to 750 units
KUALA LUMPUR: The new Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster has been unveiled ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2019. It is a convertible variant of the GT R coupe, which was introduced in 2016 and received a facelift last year. The production of the GT R Roadster is limited to 750 units only.
The GT R Roadster has got the same aggressive styling as the coupe. Aerodynamics remains similar as well, consisting of an active aero front grille, large rear double-diffuser with exhausts, and a front lip spoiler. The only noticeable difference is the three-layered folding soft top.
On the performance front, the convertible GT R Roadster gets a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo M178 mill. It churns out 585 PS of power, while the peak torque is at 700 Nm. Again, the GT R coupe has the same tuned engine. It has the AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed automatic transmission. The engine can speed up to a maximum of 317 kmph, while to hit the 100 kmph mark, it takes just 3.6 seconds.
The coil-over suspension with adjustable dampers and the rear-wheel active steering are the common cues between the coupe and the GT R Roadster. On the rear lower wishbones, it gets the Uniball spherical bearings. AMG Dynamic Select offers various driving modes, namely, Slippery, Sport, Sport Plus, Comfort, Individual, and Race.
The limited edition Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster will be launched globally in April. The car will get the bespoke badge, which will take its place at the centre console. The badge will contain the car’s number in its limited production run.
