MG teases a new electric hatchback, the MG4

KUALA LUMPUR:MG Motors recently previewed an all-new electric hatchback on its European media website and social media accounts. The upcoming EV will be the elder sibling of the MG3 and is anticipated to get the MG4 nameplate. As per the automaker’s post, the global premiere of the electric car will happen in the fourth quarter of this year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will MG4 electric hatchback debut?

The global debut of the MG4 electric hatchback will happen in the fourth quarter of this year.
  • MG4 electric hatchback rivals?

The MG4 will rival against the likes of the Volkswagen ID.3, Hyundai Ioniq, Nissan Leaf, Ora Good Cat, and the upcoming Peugeot e-308.
  • MG further confirmed that the upcoming EV will be 4.3 meters long that will put it head-to-head against many players in the segment, such as the Volkswagen ID.3, Hyundai Ioniq, Nissan Leaf, Ora Good Cat, and the upcoming Peugeot e-308.

If we talk about the design, the electric car has been “developed with the European consumer in mind,” says the automaker. The teaser reveals some design cues like a gently sloping roofline, curvaceous lines, classy black plastic cladding, and a full-width rear lighting signature. The latter has some reminiscent of the Kia EV6.

The EV will also feature black side mirrors, aggressively-designed 17-inch alloy wheels, and an orange hero exterior shade.

When it comes to hardware, the EV is expected to borrow the configuration from the new ZS EV and MG5 equipped with a 61.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor producing a maximum power output of 156 hp and a peak torque 280 Nm electric motor. With that setup, the car will be delivering a WLTP-rated cruising range of up to 400 km on a single charge.

Another variant fitted with a 177 hp electric motor and 50.3 kWh battery pack offering 320 km range could also be there.

We hope MG will reveal more details about the upcoming EV closer to its reveal. So, stay tuned for updates.
