Check out the heavily upgraded interior of the next-gen Skoda Fabia

KUALA LUMPUR: Skoda is teasing its upcoming fourth-generation Fabia hatchback in a full swing. Last week, we saw the exterior design sketches of the revamped model and now here we got a glimpse of its interior design. The new cabin has a completely different look in comparison to the older one, with tons of clues similar to the Kamiq crossover and Scala hatchback.

The new interior looks quite stylish with hi-tech appointments like a wide touchscreen infotainment display, a two-spoke steering wheel featuring integrated controls, and climate controls on the restyled centre console. Speaking about the size of the touchscreen display, the Czech automaker will offer two options– a 9.2-inch or 10.25-inch, both mated to Volkswagen Group’s new MIB 3.0 infotainment system. Smartphone mirroring with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also likely to be included as a standard feature.

Other notable interior highlights include

  • Large, round AC vents on the right and the left end of the dashboard
  • A large digital instrument panel
  • Faux leather trimming on the dash
  • A new look gear stick
  • A redesigned central storage compartment

We know that the upcoming Fabia is based on Volkswagen AG's MQB-A0 transverse modular platform. The new underpinning made the hatchback larger in all dimensions. Thus, we can also expect a lot of room inside the cabin.

As far as the Fabia’s exterior design is concerned, the revealed sketches show a new set of flat-front headlights, a wide grille with chrome framing and black ribs, and larger wheels with new design elements.

Skoda has also confirmed that the next-gen Fabia will be offered in multiple engine options, including a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated gasoline, a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill. On the transmission front, there will either a manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. As for safety, the hatchback will have nine airbags, parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts on all passenger seats.

For more details on the new Skoda Fabia, we have to wait for its global debut that is scheduled for next month.
