Polestar plans four new EVs by 2028, Polestar 5 deliveries set for Q3 2026

KUALA LUMPUR: Polestar has laid out its next product roadmap, and it seems to be a busy one.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Is Polestar coming to Malaysia?

There is no official Polestar Malaysia launch announcement yet. This latest roadmap does not confirm a local entry, but it does show the brand is expanding its line-up and retail footprint.
  • What new models has Polestar announced?

Polestar has confirmed four models in its upcoming roadmap, Polestar 5, a new Polestar 4 variant, a next-generation Polestar 2, and the Polestar 7 compact SUV.
  • In an announcement dated 18 February 2026, the Swedish EV brand said it will launch four new models over the next three years, starting with Polestar 5 deliveries in summer 2026. After that, a new Polestar 4 variant is due in late 2026, followed by a full successor to the Polestar 2 in 2027, and the compact Polestar 7 SUV in 2028.

The company is calling this its biggest product push so far, and it is clearly trying to move faster while chasing bigger volume segments in the EV market.

Polestar also said it expects low double-digit retail volume growth in 2026, while continuing to expand its retail network by 30%. That comes after what it described as its best year yet for retail sales in 2025, despite what it called a difficult geopolitical and economic backdrop.

For Malaysians hoping to see more premium EV choices beyond the usual names, Polestar’s latest announcement is at least a positive sign. There is still no official word on a Malaysia launch, but the company’s biggest product offensive yet, plus its focus on high-demand EV segments, suggests the brand is building for wider reach, and Southeast Asia could become harder to ignore.

Polestar’s next four models, timeline through 2028

Here is the rollout plan Polestar shared:

    • Polestar 5, a four-door grand tourer, with deliveries expected to begin in summer 2026

    • Polestar 4, a new variant of its current best-seller, to launch later in 2026, with deliveries expected in Q4 2026

    • Next-generation Polestar 2, a completely new replacement for the sedan that built the brand, planned for early 2027

    • Polestar 7, a compact premium SUV, planned for 2028

The biggest short-term move is the Polestar 5, which is expected to become the brand’s halo model. Polestar is also betting that broadening the Polestar 4 line-up with another variant will help it reach more buyers.

The next Polestar 2 is arguably the more important long-term play. The current car has been central to Polestar’s identity, and the company says it has sold more than 190,000 units so far. Replacing it quickly suggests Polestar is not planning to let that model fade while newer rivals pile into the segment.

Then there is the Polestar 7, which is set to land in the compact SUV space, one of the biggest volume areas in Europe’s EV market.

CEO says Polestar is moving into high-demand EV segments

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller positioned the plan as a speed-and-scale move into stronger EV segments, while also leaning on the company’s retail expansion.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO: “Polestar continues to challenge the automotive industry, now by entering fast-growing and high value segments in record speed.”

    He added:

“Following our best sales year ever, we are now launching the largest model offensive in our history, with four premium EVs coming to market within three years. We are targeting the heart of the EV market, where customer demand and profit pools are high. Combined with our continued retail sales network expansion and a growing customer base, we are setting the foundations for profitable growth and operational improvement.

“Polestar 5 is our brand halo car, bringing a new level of performance and luxury to the grand-tourer segment. With incredible handling and a lightweight bonded aluminium platform, the four-door GT has already received fantastic reviews, as part of its launch tour across Europe.

“Polestar 4 coupé is our current best-seller. Already by the end of this year, we will launch a new variant of Polestar 4, based on the same great technology. With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards. Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class. We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar.

“Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers. Bringing the next generation of this iconic car in record speed, by the start of next year, is very exciting. The car that we became known for will play a key role of our future success.

“With Polestar 7 we are entering the largest EV segment in Europe, the compact SUV segment, which accounts for approximately one-third of total BEV volumes in 2025. We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point, built in Europe.

”2025 was a year of continuous operational progress and delivery. With our attractive model line-up, strong shareholder support and partners with access to the latest technology, Polestar is set to become one of the winners of the automotive industry’s transformation.”

2026 growth target, more retail focus, and a bigger role for Polestar 4

Beyond the product launches, Polestar is also talking up a more disciplined sales approach for 2026.

The company says it expects low double-digit retail volume growth this year, and it expects the sales mix to shift further towards the Polestar 4. It also plans to focus more heavily on retail sales, supported by a larger sales network and the expanded product line-up.

In simple terms, Polestar is trying to do two things at once, bring in more cars quickly, and improve the quality of its sales mix through retail rather than just chasing raw volume.

Whether that works will depend on execution, pricing, and how much consumer demand holds up in a still-uncertain EV market, but on paper, Polestar has made it clear it is not slowing down.
