Auto Shanghai 2023: Polestar 4 makes its world debut

KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing Auto Shanghai 2023 auto show became the center stage for Polestar’s first-ever performance SUV, the Polestar 4. As per the manufacturer, this SUV coupe is based on the brand’s concept cars and is their fastest production car to date!

    The all-new Polestar 4, unlike its siblings, is built on the Geely-Holding-developed Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). The car’s dimensions read -

    Exterior

    The SUV coupe from Polestar features a fastback roofline along with some futuristic design elements. Part of the car’s design kit is the complete elimination of the rear window & rearview mirror which as per the brand offers a new kind of immersive experience to the occupant.

    This elimination has led to the inclusion of a high-definition screen that shows the real-time feed from a roof-mounted camera.

    Also, part of the kit is a full-length glass roof with electrochromic functionality which enables the roof to be either transparent or opaque, as per the driver’s mood.

    In addition to offering a comforting and ultra-luxurious cabin, the Polestar 4 comes equipped with several advanced features including three displays.

    • Main 15.4-inch Android Auto-powered infotainment display
    • A 10.2-inch driver display (displays speed, battery, and range information)
    • 14.7 inches heads-up display (display essential information like telephony, navigation, and other key vehicle information)

    Powertrain configuration

    The Polestar 4 will be available in two powertrain options - single and dual motor. The long-range single-motor option generates 272 hp and 343 Nm of torque, while the long-range dual-motor version makes 544 hp and 686 Nm of torque.

    As for range, while the single motor version will provide up to 600 km, the latter will offer around 569 km only.

    All the Polestar 4 variants will be offered with 22 kW AC and 200 kW charging rates.

    Safety

    Thanks to Polestar’s strong ties with Volvo, its cars never lag behind in terms of safety. The same is true for the new Polestar 4 which comes with several safety gears including, nine airbags, a radar sensor, twelve cameras, a superVision Advanced Driver Assistance System from Mobileye, and steering wheel hands-on detection.

    Global availability

    With China being the first country to welcome the Polestar 4, the SUV’s launch in other markets like North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific is planned for next year.
