KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo has expanded its electric vehicle line-up in Malaysia with the launch of the Volvo ES90 Ultra, a new all-electric premium sedan offered as a single, fully specified variant.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the driving range of the Volvo ES90 Ultra in Malaysia?

The Volvo ES90 Ultra has a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 651 km.
  • How fast can the Volvo ES90 Ultra charge?

Using a 350 kW DC fast charger, the ES90 Ultra can charge from 10–80% in 22 minutes. On AC charging, a full charge takes 10 hours (11 kW) or 15 hours (7.4 kW).
  • What battery does the Volvo ES90 Ultra use?

It uses a nickel-rich NCM lithium-ion battery with 92 kWh gross and 88 kWh usable capacity.
  • In Malaysia, the Volvo ES90 Ultra is priced at RM339,888 (on-the-road, without insurance). Booking opens today, with deliveries scheduled to begin in March.

Volvo is also running an early bird offer, buyers who book on or before 31 March 2026 will get 2% off the vehicle price, while fleet operators are offered a higher 8% off the vehicle price as an early bird deal within the same period.

The ES90 Ultra is backed by Volvo Car Malaysia’s standard warranty coverage, which includes a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, a high-voltage battery warranty of eight years or 160,000 km (whichever comes first), and five years of complimentary roadside assistance.

Positioned as a long-range EV for daily use and long-distance driving, the ES90 Ultra combines a rear-wheel drive single-motor setup and a claimed WLTP range of up to 651 km, alongside Volvo’s latest safety and connectivity technology.

In terms of performance, the Volvo ES90 Ultra's single rear-mounted electric motor produces 245 kW (333 hp) and 480 Nm of torque.

This allows the all-electric sedan to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission, aligning the ES90 Ultra with Volvo’s focus on balanced performance rather than outright acceleration figures.

Energy storage comes from a lithium-ion, nickel-rich NCM battery with a 92 kWh gross capacity and 88 kWh usable. On the charging front, the ES90 Ultra supports Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC charging. A full 0–100% AC charge takes around 15 hours using a 7.4 kW single-phase wallbox, or 10 hours via an 11 kW three-phase setup.

For DC fast charging, Volvo quotes 10–80% in 22 minutes when connected to a 350 kW DC charger, while the same charge window takes 82 minutes on a 50 kW DC charger.

Google-based services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store, are included for five years, after which a subscription renewal is required.

Comfort and convenience equipment is extensive. The ES90 Ultra features Active Air Suspension, Pilot Assist with Lane Change Assist, Park Pilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera system with 3D view. Seating highlights include power front seats with memory and four-way lumbar support, power side bolsters, ventilated front and rear seats, front seat massage, and power-reclining rear seats.

Other features include a power-operated tailgate, key card, rain sensor, one-pedal drive, laminated windows, a four-zone electronic climate control system, and an electrochromic panoramic sunroof.
