2027 BMW 3 Series makes global debut - Neue Klasse design, petrol and electric powertrains

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new eighth-generation BMW 3 Series has made its global debut, with production set to begin in late 2026. Featuring BMW’s latest Neue Klasse design language and latest technology, the new 3 Series will be available with both petrol and fully-electric powertrains. 

The 2027 BMW 3 Series will be initially available in four trims in the US - BMW 330, BMW 330 xDrive, BMW M350 xDrive, and fully electric BMW i3 50 xDrive. 

2027 BMW 3 Series: Key highlights

Bigger than the predecessor 

The 8th-gen BMW 3 Series measures 4,765 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,455 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,860 mm. Compared to the outgoing model, it is slightly larger, with wider tracks giving it a broader stance.

Gets a completely new look

The upgraded sedan adopts the completely new design language, first introduced with BMW’s Neue Klasse models. The front boasts a more horizontal version of the kidney grille that features illumination and extends towards the restyled headlights. The rear looks equally striking with wider wraparound LED tail lights that extend into the rear shoulders. As for wheels, there is a range of designs, with petrol variants getting 19- and 20-inch rims and the electric variant getting 19- to 21-inch units.

The BMW M350 xDrive exclusively gets a sportier appearance with additional M-specific lighting elements, a quad-exhaust setup, M badging, and a lip spoiler. 

Wide range of drivetrain options 

The US-spec BMW 330 variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid setup, which generates a maximum power of 255 hp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Power is sent to either the rear or all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The M350 xDrive gets a 3.0-litre inline-six engine tuned to make 437 hp and 530 Nm of torque. 

The i3 50 xDrive runs on the brand’s sixth-gen eDrive AWD technology with dual electric motors, generating 463 hp and 645 Nm. It is paired with a 108.7 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-rated range of 912 km.

Completely redesigned interior 

The redesigned tech-heavy cabin features a whole new form of driver orientation with the display and operating system. Key features include -

The eighth-generation BMW 3 Series price in the US ranges from USD 49,900 to USD 65,900.
