It arrives with a reputation already attached. The iX3 was named 2026 World Car of the Year and 2026 World Electric Vehicle by an international jury of 98 motoring journalists. It is only the second BMW to win World Car of the Year, after the 3 Series in 2006.

The New BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro is priced at RM378,800 as the recommended retail price, rising to RM399,800 with BMW Service and Repair Inclusive bundled in.
That is a sharper number than the region suggested it would be. The same car went on sale in Indonesia at 2.269 billion rupiah, roughly RM512,000 off-the-road, and in Thailand from THB3.599 million, around RM439,000.
It also lands below the BMW iX, which starts at RM425,800 in Malaysia, despite being the newer and technically more advanced product of the two.

The iX3 50 xDrive is the first production car to use sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology on an 800-volt architecture. There is a motor on each axle, but they are not the same type.
The rear is an externally-excited synchronous motor making 240kW and 435Nm, while the front is an AC induction unit good for 123kW and 255Nm, chosen because it can be switched off entirely when it is not needed rather than dragging along.
Combined output is 469hp and 645Nm, sent through a single-speed transmission to a rear-biased xDrive system.That is good for 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds and a 210km/h top speed.
The battery is a 108.7kWh pack using cylindrical cells in a cell-to-pack layout, with the housing built into the body structure so it forms part of the underbody. Kerb weight is still 2,360kg, which is a lot of car to stop and turn, so the chassis has work to do.
That is where the Heart of Joy comes in. BMW's new high-performance control unit governs drive power and driving dynamics together, and the company claims responses roughly ten times faster than conventional systems.
Recuperation handles around 98 per cent of braking on average and can now bring the car to a full stop on its own. Whether that translates into the seamless, one-pedal feel BMW describes is a question for a proper drive, not a spec sheet.

The headline number is up to 805km on the WLTP cycle. The 800-volt system supports DC charging at up to 400kW, which BMW says adds up to 372km of range in ten minutes, and the pack remains fully compatible with 400-volt chargers.
Claimed consumption is 15.1 to 17.9 kWh/100km with a 0.24 drag coefficient, making this the most efficient battery-electric BMW Sports Activity Vehicle (SUV for the rest of us) yet.
Worth flagging for Malaysian buyers: 400kW chargers are still thin on the ground here, so real-world charging speeds will depend heavily on which chargers and network you use.
The car also preconditions the battery when route guidance is active, and the charging flap opens automatically when the driver's door is opened at a navigated charging stop. BMW says the system can also learn previously visited chargers and open the flap on approach, though that function needs BMW Digital Key Plus set up and carried on board.

Inside, the traditional cluster is gone. In its place is BMW Panoramic Vision, a 43.3-inch projection running the full width of the windscreen from A-pillar to A-pillar, with key driving data sitting above the steering wheel and up to six configurable widgets across the rest. BMW says it stays readable with polarised sunglasses.
Below it sits a 17.9-inch Central Display with a Free-Cut Design running BMW Operating System X, plus a new 3D Head-Up Display that renders navigation and assistance data with spatial depth. The multifunction M steering wheel is flattened top and bottom with vertical spokes to keep the projection clear, and uses Shy Tech controls that only light up when relevant.
There is a new BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant too, with proactive functions that suggest unused features and save routines that run automatically at the start of a journey. Two voice options are available.

The exterior is the clearest break. Smooth surfaces and restrained lines give the car a monolithic look, with a vertical kidney grille lit by BMW Iconic Glow replacing chrome with light. Flush door handles with contour lighting, black window graphics running to the Hofmeister kink and an integrated charging flap keep the surfaces clean.
The M Sport Pro adds painted bumpers and side sills, staggered 22-inch Y-Spoke Style 1054 M bicolour wheels and red high-gloss M Sport brakes.
For the record, the spec sheet lists 4,782mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,635mm tall on a 2,897mm wheelbase. That is the standard-wheelbase iX3, not the long-wheelbase iX3 L with its 3,005mm wheelbase that has been confirmed for selected Asian markets.
The cabin uses a textile-finished instrument panel with backlighting, Interior Design BMW M in Black, and hidden electric air vents. M Sport seats get a seven-programme massage function, with electric adjustment and memory, seat heating, steering wheel heating, M seat belts, Comfort Access and a wireless charging tray as standard. Audio is a 430-watt, 13-speaker Harman Kardon system.
Rear passengers get adjustable seat backs, two USB-C ports, a touch display for the three-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing. Boot space is 520 litres, expanding to 1,750 litres with the 40/20/40 rear bench folded, and there is a 58-litre front storage compartment, a first for a BMW, made from 30 per cent recycled maritime material.

Driving Assistant Plus is standard, adding steering and braking support, adaptive speed and distance control, lane keeping, and automatic adjustment to detected speed limits with slowing for corners, roundabouts and junctions. Parking Assistant Professional brings a 360-degree view and remote manoeuvring from up to six metres away via a compatible smartphone.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated and can display navigation in the Panoramic Vision and head-up display. BMW Digital Premium is standard, as is a parking collision recorder that alerts your phone through the My BMW App. BMW Digital Key Plus is the primary key, with a physical backup supplied.
Ownership falls under BMW's Relax. We Care. promise, but read the two prices carefully. At RM378,800 the car carries the standard two-year unlimited mileage warranty.
The five-year unlimited mileage warranty and six years of unlimited mileage service coverage come with BMW Service and Repair Inclusive at RM399,800.
The eight-year high-voltage battery warranty, BMW Proactive Care monitoring and 24/7 roadside assistance apply either way.
Six exterior colours are offered, all with the M Black interior: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, M Brooklyn Grey, Space Silver, and two new metallics in Ocean Wave Blue and Polarised Grey.
