Price, the foremost factor for Malaysians while buying their car !

Kuala Lumpur: Asean NCAP yesterday conducted a survey, according to which 27 percent of the respondents chose price as their number one factor that influenced their car purchase. The survey was conducted at the Asean Automotive Safety Forum in Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia where the forum tabled out these findings.

The prime factor was Price with a share of 27 per cent, followed by Safety at 19 per cent, fuel economy at 17 per cent and comfort accounted for 14 percent.

According to the sources, these surveys were held at five different locations in Klang Valley which are accounted as the most populous areas with the highest amount of vehicles. Also, it was noted that around 50 per cent of the respondents were between 17 to 25 years old, and 71 per cent were having a driving experience of less than ten years.

The data was surmised in a pie chart form which shows only two per cent chose style and design as a deciding factor while 7 percent chose Performace and 5 percent were in favor of reliability. Apart from these factors, the cost of maintenance and service of the car also grabbed only two-per cent share in the century.

Asean NCAP is the most popular ratings in Malaysia as per the survey. It showed a positive growth of awareness to Asean NCAP has jumped from 15.5 per cent last year to 32 per cent. Asean Automotive Safety Forum believes that these results are mainly because of the road tour initiative earlier held by the organisation. And it is also planning to conduct a bi-annual road tour with the help of car manufacturers to raise more and more awareness among the potential car buyer's.

We believe that such surveys should be conducted on a regular basis nation wide with more focus to be placed on questions like what are the factors that will make them decide on their next car purchase. Also, the government agencies should come forward over these surveys and help the Malaysians to consider the cost of maintenance and fuel consumption in their decision-making process.

Despite being a biotech professional, Sanchit Agarwal's daydreams of driving a Ferrari and chasing cars in a Grand Prix made him jump into automotive journalism. His childhood craving for the cars started with Hot wheels toys which led him to create pseudo cars on his own. When people loved playing outdoor sports, Sanchit was stuck to his racing video games hidden in a closet. The torque of his creative writing coupled with his passion for moving machines pushed him into Carbay's garage. Sanchit also wonders's, why is he writing this as a third person.
