Proton teams up with RCM to clean Morib Beach

KUALA LUMPUR: As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, Proton has partnered with Reef Check Malaysia (RCM) to remove waste materials from the beach at Morib Beach in Banting, Selangor. RCM is a non-profit organisation focused on coral reef conservation.

A total of 157 volunteers, including Proton employees, vendors, dealers, and bankers, came together to clean and restore Morib Beach. It is a coastal gem known for its marine and mangrove ecosystems, located just an hour's drive from the city of Kuala Lumpur.

With a focus on the main visitor area, the team cleared a total of  468.27 kilograms of waste, comprising general waste, large items, tin/metal, plastic, and glass. They also removed plastic straws and cigarette butts to help preserve the beach’s natural beauty.

It is the second year Proton is focusing on this coastal area, raising environmental awareness within the company. The clean-up drive not only helps improve the beach’s condition, but also -

• Raises awareness about the importance of keeping coastlines clean
• Underlines the role that mangrove and coastal ecosystems play in environmental conservation
• Coaches participants on what they can do personally to reduce waste
• Highlights the urgent issue of marine pollution and the value of collecting data for national marine policies

This act also emphasised teamwork between members of Proton’s ecosystem, while reinforcing the company’s corporate values.
