Regas Premium opens first BMW EV charging station in Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: The BMW EV charging network has expanded in Malaysia with the launch of a new charging facility in Sabah. The latest charging outlet is owned by Regas Premium Sabah, the sole authorised dealer of BMW cars, in Sabah. It is the state’s first public electric vehicle charging station, which is located at the basement parking of T1 @ Bundusan.

The key highlights of the new BMW charging facility are -

• Regas Premium Sabah has partnered with JomCharge to establish this advanced charging network, which aligns with the increasing demand for sustainable transportation nationwide
• The newly launched BMW charging facility is equipped with two bays capable of providing 11 kWh AC charging
• It is open to the public 24 hours a day, offering the convenience of charging at any time
• Customers can use the facility at a standard rate of RM 6 per hour
• It is located at the basement parking lot of T1 @ Bundusan, Jalan Bundusan, Taman Cemerlang, 89500 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Upon opening the new EV charging facility, Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia congratulated Regas Premium Sabah. He said, “With the official unveiling of this new charging facility, we congratulate our long-time dealer partner for taking this bold step towards increasing accessibility to sustainable mobility for our customers and all EV owners in Kota Kinabalu. The significance of this achievement lies in its potential to reshape mobility habits and drive the adoption of electric vehicles in the region.”

The company has a broader vision to expand the EV charging infrastructure throughout the region, with a particular focus on locations like Tawau as part of its upcoming expansion plans.

A brief on BMW's fast-growing EV charging network in Malaysia

BMW Group Malaysia has established a network of over 1,000 charging facilities. These facilities are accessible through various partnerships, including 

• ChargEV and Yinson Greentech, which provide access to more than 400 charging points
• The collaboration with JomCharge offers access to over 100 charging facilities
• Gentari contributes to the network with over 150 facilities
• New partners like Shell Recharge with ParkEasy, ChargeN’Go, ChargeSini, Go To-U, and FlexiParking contribute around 160 more facilities
• Moreover, over 100 charging facilities are available at BMW i and MINI authorised dealerships
