KUALA LUMPUR: After teasing the Fronx earlier this month, Suzuki Cars Malaysia has now dropped another exciting post on its social media handle, introducing local enthusiasts to its first-ever EV, the e VITARA.

    Dimensions 

    The 5-seater e VITARA measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. It has a minimum turning radius of 5.2 metres and a ground clearance of 180 mm, offering comfortable manoeuvring and off-road capability.

    Design 

    The EV underpins the “High-Tech & Adventure” design theme with a sharp-looking front fascia and sleek single-pod headlights integrated with LED daytime running lights. 

    On the sides, we can find chunky body claddings, muscular wheel arches, and striking alloy wheels. Rounding off the EV’s robust look is a chunky rear bumper and wrap-around LED tail lights connected by a black insert.

    Drivetrain and range 

    The Suzuki e VITARA will be available in two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options - 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with both FWD and “ALLGRIP-e” 4WD drive systems available. The FWD offers two different states of output - 142 hp and 172 hp while the dual-motor setup, on the other hand, is good for making 184 hp and 300 Nm.

    The “ALLGRIP-e” system features independent eAxles at the front and rear, along with a Trail mode that “enables smooth escape from rough terrain by applying brakes to spinning tyres and distributing drive torque to the opposite tyre.”

    Interior 

    The e VITARA has a spacious dual-tone cabin featuring tough-looking panels, an integrated display and a stylish two-spoke steering wheel. Adding to convenience are rotary drive mode selector and an electronic parking brake positioned on the centre console. 

    Other key highlights include - Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, heated mirrors, automatic climate control, and advanced driver assistance systems.

    The production of Suzuki’s first-ever EV will start in mid-2025, with the initial batches expected in Europe, India, and Japan by late 2025. Will it come to Malaysian shores anytime soon? Only time will tell.
