Toyo Proxes Comfort launched in Malaysia, new comfort tyre built for braking, stability and EV drivers, from RM279

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyo Tires has introduced the Proxes Comfort in Malaysia, a new touring tyre aimed at passenger cars and SUVs, positioned around everyday refinement, braking stability and long-distance usability rather than outright sport performance.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the Toyo Proxes Comfort?

It’s Toyo’s new comfort touring tyre for passenger cars and SUVs, focused on braking stability, quietness and highway ride quality.
  • Is the Proxes Comfort EV-ready?

Yes. Many sizes carry Extra Load ratings and EV-ready tuning to support heavier electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • How is it different from the Proxes CF2?

Toyo claims up to 8% shorter dry braking and 13% shorter wet braking compared to the CF2, along with improved comfort and stability.
  • The timing of these tyres feel relevant to the current driving experience. Malaysian driving habits are changing alongside the rise of electrified vehicles.

According to Car Fuel Type Summary (2000–2025) data, adoption of electrified vehicles has increased more than 300% over the past four years, which shifts priorities toward quieter operation, smoother ride quality and predictable grip in mixed weather.

Responding to this evolution, Mr Tan Song Chye, President and Managing Director of Toyo Tyre Sales And Marketing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., said: “Toyo Tires will introduce three new tyre models under its Proxes series over the next three years, each developed to support the performance demands of modern mobility. Proxes Comfort is the first model launched under this strategy, marking a key milestone in Toyo Tires’ product roadmap in Malaysia.”

A comfort tyre built around braking and stability

Developed in Japan, the Proxes Comfort sits as the next step in Toyo’s comfort-focused tyre line. The engineering brief was to build a tyre that stays composed at highway speeds, brakes confidently in the wet, and doesn’t punish occupants over long journeys.

Instead of focusing on a single headline feature, the tyre combines compound design, internal structure and tread geometry to manage how pressure is distributed across the contact patch. Toyo’s goal here is consistency, keeping the tyre footprint stable under load so grip remains predictable during cornering, braking and sudden lane changes.

A key part of this is Toyo’s Dynamic Taper Design. Conventional groove edges can flex and deform when heavily loaded, which leads to uneven pressure and reduced block stiffness.

The tapered groove shaping in the Proxes Comfort is designed to suppress that deformation, allowing the tread blocks to maintain more uniform contact with the road.

In real-world terms, that translates into steadier braking behaviour and more controlled handling when conditions get messy, whether it’s heavy rain, stop-start traffic or emergency braking.

The tyre profile is also tuned to reduce strain around the bead and belt edges, helping it keep a more even ground contact shape when cornering. Toyo’s internal testing includes high-speed lane-change simulations at 100 km/h, focusing on maintaining stable pressure distribution rather than letting the contact patch collapse toward the edges.

Shorter braking distances vs Proxes CF2

Against its predecessor, the Proxes CF2, the new tyre posts measurable gains in braking. Toyo states an 8% reduction in dry braking distance and a 13% improvement in wet braking. Those numbers matter more for daily driving than outright lap times, especially in Malaysia where wet roads are routine rather than occasional.

The overall character is balanced. Independent of the marketing language, the design priorities clearly lean toward comfort, noise suppression and high-speed composure, with braking performance forming the safety anchor.

    EV-ready sizing and load support

The Proxes Comfort launches in 14 sizes initially, covering 16- to 19-inch rims, with additional fitments planned. Most variants carry Extra Load (XL) ratings to accommodate the higher kerb weights typical of BEVs, HEVs and PHEVs.

Eleven of the available sizes are classified as EV-ready, with Toyo rating them at maximum scores for ride comfort and noise performance, including EV-focused acoustic tuning.

The tyre is aimed primarily at B-, C- and E-segment vehicles, the kind that rack up highway mileage and spend long hours commuting. Pricing in Malaysia ranges from RM279 to RM698 depending on size.

    Now available in Malaysia

The Toyo Proxes Comfort is available now through authorised Toyo dealers nationwide. The tyre targets drivers who prioritise quietness, braking confidence and highway stability over aggressive sport tuning, which aligns with how most passenger cars and SUVs are actually used day to day.
