Toyota Vios GR-S: Detailed in pics
Towards the end of 2020, Toyota Malaysia launched the Vios facelift alongside its sportier trim dubbed as the Vios GR-S. This warmed-up Vios is a refined version of the actual Vios Challenge race car that is well-known for its racing capabilities. It features Gazoo Racing embellishments both inside and outside the car. Today, we will be taking you through the exterior and interior gallery of the Toyota Vios GR-S, but before that let’s take a look at its price and engine specifications.
Toyota Vios GR-S price
Toyota retails the sportier Vios for RM 95,284 (on the road, excluding insurance). This is around RM 5000 dearer than top-spec Vios 1.5 G.
Toyota Vios GR-S engine specifications
Although the Vios GR-S is the sportier trim of the standard sedan, the upgrades are limited to body modifications and a better suspension unit. The suffix ‘sport’ couldn’t add to the sedan’s power, which means it is powered by the same 1.5-litre four-pot engine generating a maximum power output of 107 PS at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm at 4200 rpm. However, the transmission is not the regular continuous variable transmission with 7 virtual ratios, but a CVT with 10 virtual ratios, which delivers a better response.
Moving on to the Vios gallery.
Exterior
Considered as the USP, the exterior styling of the car exudes a racing spirit with a bold appearance. It gives away the thrill of the racetrack even at a glance. Upfront, we can see a new-look grille with a honeycomb pattern, sleek projector headlamps, and a sporty bumper featuring meaner-looking air intakes. The front fascia looks a bit similar to the GR Yaris.
On the side view of the sporty sedan lies the blacked-out side mirrors, blacked-out side skirts with small “10-speed” markings, and black 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 205/45R17 low profile tyres.
Just like the front, the tail end also has a sporty stance with the features like a blacked-out boot spoiler, LED tail lights, and an aggressive bumper with a much larger black section. A GR Sport badge is also positioned on the boot.
Toyota Vios GR-S colour palette includes two options - Red Mica Metallic and White Pearl.
Interior
The Vios GR-S is based on the top-spec non-GR 1.5G trim and thus has almost the same styling and features. However, the automaker added some sporty elements to elevate the experience. These include -
GR-S Suede leather seats: The car is fitted with sports seats wrapped in premium semi-suede leather with an exclusive emblem and contrast red accent stitching. They are comfortable and provide good support while taking corners.
Smart entry and push start system: The sedan also has a smart push start button that lets the driver start the vehicle effortlessly. It also features a GR emblem.
Optitron meter & Mutli-info display: With the sportier Vios, the Japanese automakers offer a red Optitron meter featuring red needles and GR animation on the 4.2-inch multi-information display.
Paddle shifters: For a sportier acceleration, Toyota added the paddle shifters in the car, which replicate a manual gear shift. It maximizes the potential of the higher rpm range.
7-inch touchscreen infotainment display: For entertainment on the go, there is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-ready connectivity, a wireless charger (optional), and a vehicle telematics system.
Electrochromic rearview mirror: Another significant interior highlight of the Vios GR-S is an electrochromic rearview mirror that keeps you from being distracted by the beams of the rear vehicles by reducing their excessive light.
Auto Air-Conditioning: The car comes with an automatic air conditioning system keeping the temperature constant regardless of the weather.
Safety
The Toyota Vios GR-S safety pack covers a number of active and passive features. Some of the significant ones are:
Toyota Safety Sense Pre-Collision System: It avoids frontal collisions by alerting the driver and when there is a risk of collision, it automatically applies brakes to reduce the vehicle’s speed.
Toyota Safety Sense Lane Departure Alert: It detects lane markings on straight roads, and alerts the driver to check the road, and go back to the center of the lane.
Blindspot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert: When there is an object in the blind spot, the blind-spot system gives an alert while the rear cross-traffic alert notifies about people or vehicles passing behind the car.
3D Panoramic view monitor: It provides a three-dimensional view of the front, sides, and behind the car with the help of different cameras.
Overall, the Toyota Vios GR-S is thoughtfully created to offer an exciting experience of driving a sporty car without any compromise on comfort and safety.
