Upcoming Kia EV6 previewed in Malaysia; to launch before the year end

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 Kia EV6 is one of the most anticipated EVs of the year for the Malaysian market. The car has been spotted, teased and spied a number of times in the past and now it was put on display by the automaker for more up-close and personal viewing.

The upcoming Kia EV6 was previewed at the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Kia Championship 2022 event that took place at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club. The event was put on in collaboration with Dinamikjaya Motors, the official distributors of the automaker in the country.

On the first day of the event the automaker displayed its celebrated MPV, the Carnival and the next day came the EV6 SUV that took the excitement level of the viewers a notch higher.

Coming back to the protagonist of the golfing event, the Kia EV6. This particular showcasing marked the first preview of the model in Malaysia. As for its launch, it is expected to happen in either Q3 or Q4 2022.

The EV6 displayed at the event was the GT-Line variant with body-coloured wheel arch cladding, gloss black accents, and a more aggressive front apron. The rear apron gets a balck trim limited at the corners where we see the reflectors, and dashed pins integrated into the reverse light. On to the side, are present 20-inch wheels wrapped with 255/45 tyres.

On the inside, the displayed unit showcased a black and white interior with amenities like two 12.3-inch screens, vegan leather, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, and, suede upholstery.

The VIN number of the car’s windscreen suggests an all wheel drive Long Range mill with a 77.4 kWh lithium-battery. Together the two e-motors generate a maximum power of 325 PS along with a peak torque of 605 Nm. This setup allows Kia’s latest EV to propel from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.2 seconds and attain a top-speed of 183 kmph. The range is estimated at 506 km.

It is to be noted that the upcoming Malaysian-spec Kia EV6 might not be the one showcased by the automaker. Kia Malaysia still needs to confirm the official EV6 specs sheet.
