Say hello to the all-new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 45

KUALA LUMPUR: To commemorate the 45 glorious years of the original Golf GTI, Volkswagen introduced a special anniversary model in the European market, dubbed as the Golf GTI Clubsport 45. Based on the Golf GTI Clubsport that debuted in October last year, the special edition features cosmetic changes inside out alongside some mechanical tweaks. Have a look at the details.

On the exterior, the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 boasts a distinguished look with a black roof and a contrasting roof spoiler. Added to its unique appearance is an exclusive Race package, IQ.Light LED matrix headlights and 19-inch Scottsdale alloy wheels decked up in the black finish and a red pinstripe. A special ‘45’ badge is positioned on the car’s side panels and tailgate.

Under the bonnet, it carries the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot mill as the GTI Clubsport, which produces a maximum output of 300 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm. That’s a significant increase from the 246 PS and 370 Nm available in the standard GTI. The engine is mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels and helping the hatchback to hit the 100 kmph mark in less than 6 seconds. The Race Package also brings on board a sport exhaust system and removed the 250 kmph top-speed limiter. 

Like the standard Clubsport, the special model sits on a suspension that is 15 mm closer to the ground as compared to the GTI. It also has a fifth ‘Special’ drive mode, larger rotors, and expanded positive camber on the front axle. 

Talking about the interior features list, the Golf GTI Clubsport 45 gets premium sports seats at the front with the GTI lettering, sports steering wheel with a ‘45’ badge, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 10-inch touchscreen for navigation, ambient lighting, stainless steel pedals, and keyless entry. As for safety, it is equipped with the features like autonomous emergency braking, car-to-x communication, lane keep assist, and more.

The all-new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 45 is now available in selected European countries, with prices starting from 47,790 euros (RM 233,435).
