Yamaha previews 2019 YZF-R25 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha Malaysia recently hosted the launch preview event for the 2019 YZF-R25. The preview took place at the annual Hong Leong Yamaha dealer appreciation dinner, which itself is a big surprise for the people. However, the manufacturer has not disclosed the price yet and is said to reveal the same in March. The YZF-R25 made its debut in Jakarta (Indonesia) last October on the 20th anniversary of Yamaha YZF-R1. It comes in two variants and the standard trim is priced at 58,600,000 Indonesian rupiah (roughly RM 17,161) while the ABS version comes with a price tag of 64,600,000 rupiah (around RM18,918).

The all-new YZF-R25 shares its designing cues from the YZF-R1 and YZF-R6. It features a brand new aerodynamic style with cladding all over the body. The company claims that the new aerodynamic bodywork will assist in getting a top-speed bump of around 8 kmph. The bike uses the “cross-layered” fairing, which is the main reason behind lowering the drag coefficient from 0.347 to 0.323.

The two-wheeler comes with LED headlights and has an updated LCD instrument panel. Coming to the suspension, it is equipped with an upgraded setup. Up front, there are upside-down forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. The motorcycle will available in two different color options - Metallic Blue and Matte Red.

The 2019 YZF-R25 comes with the same parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, which is capable of making up to 36 PS of power coming at 12,000 rpm and a peak torque of 22.6 Nm at 10,000 rpm. The power is channelled to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The Hong Leong Yamaha’s managing director, Mr. Datuk Jim Khor said that the company always tries to push forward to deal with the changes in the market. He also added that the bikemaker will launch 13 new models this year.
