2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 gets performance upgrades

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford just made the Mustang Shelby GT350 faster than ever by giving it performance upgrades for the 2019 model. These upgrades include better aerodynamics, chassis, and tires.

The upgraded 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will feature a new and optimised front grille, and a newly designed spoiler at the rear. These additions enhance the aerodynamic capabilities of the car. And if you want more, then Ford has got an optional Gurney flap. This is a small tab on the spoiler that provides even better aerodynamic efficiency and increased downforce at high speeds.

With great speeds comes great responsibilities. The 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 can attain benchmark speed with its upgraded aerodynamics. And therefore it should have capable tires to handle the extra bump in speed and performance. So, Ford worked with Michelin to redesign the tread pattern and compound of the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Ford claims that these new rubbers will allow the driver to take full advantage of the car at higher speeds. The new tires will provide better grip, improved linear and lateral acceleration times, and shorter braking distances. Ford has also revised the tuning of the ABS to help the tires to stop the Mustang as quickly as possible without losing out on the grip.

There is also some tweaking done to the suspension setup of the 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350. It has recalibrated the springs and revised the damping to enhance the performance. The new Mustang should be quicker around a race track than ever before.

Other features that we can find on the updated 2019 model include a 12-speaker B&O PLAY system, controlled via Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and Homelink garage door opener.

Ford left the engine of the new Mustang untouched. It is the same 5.2-liter V8 engine that produces 526 horsepower and 581 Nm of torque. It comes coupled to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission.

When Ford introduced the GT350 in 2016 as the ‘best handling Mustang ever’, Ford really pushed the boundaries to make this gorgeous-looking car a performance beast. With the latest updates, the beast has just grown more brutal.

Ford has said that the customers of the new 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 will receive complimentary enrollment in its high-performance driving school so that they know what they are dealing with, and fully utilise the new upgrades. We are expecting to see the new model to hit the showrooms sometime early next year.
