2020 Paris Motor Show called-off amidst Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

KUALA LUMPUR: Not a single person has been left unaffected by the monster that is Conoravirus. From the world economy to the health sector, each has a painful story to tell. The auto world is also taking the heat in the form of delayed launches, cancelled events, and dip in sales.

After the 2020 Detroit Auto Show announced its cancellation yesterday, today we have the 2020 Paris Motor Show following the same path.

Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak that has hit the European countries hard, organisers have announced the partial cancellation of the bi-annual auto show in the French capital. For now, only the main part - where the cars are displayed at Porte de Versailles, has been called off.

The cancellation at the moment does not include - off-site events, Movin’On, and Smart City. These events are part of the new and broader Paris Motion Festival that is scheduled to run from 26 September to 11 October with a focus on future mobility and technology. The actual 2020 Paris Motor Show is scheduled from 1 to 11 October.

The organiser of the show, La Plateforme Automobile said, “Nothing will be the same as before, and this crisis must teach us to be agile, creative and more innovative than ever,”

So, guys, this year’s auto show calendar has been ripped apart, all thanks to Coronavirus. Besides the Paris and North America auto show, the New York International Auto Show, UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, and Beijing International Automotive Exhibition are all shifted to a future date. Also, the 2020 Geneva Motor Show was canceled at the last minute.

Many automakers and even F1 teams have taken a break from their regular business. They are now focusing their money, supplies, and knowledge to manufacture medical supplies such as ventilators and face shields.
