2021 Genesis G70 facelift images leaked

KUALA LUMPUR: The luxury vehicle division of Hyundai Motor, Genesis, is working on the next generation of its sports sedan G70 for a while now. The model is expected to get a big refresh to look more in line with the rest of the lineup. But before the official unveiling of any kind, the leaked images of the sedan are bouncing over the internet.

The leaked images first appeared on TheKoreanCarBlog.com, showing a daring new front-end design. The appeared photos are alleged to have been taken inside the Hyundai Group's Ulsan factory in South Korea, where the automaker manufactures the sedan.

The completely overhauled front view features a bold new grille that matches the larger G80 sedan, chrome lashings on the grilles, new headlamps, lower air intakes, and a brand logo on the bonnet's edge.

On the other side of the pool, the rear-end reveals a less dramatic restyling with its resculpted taillamps, new boot lid, and a new bumper with a relocated number-plate position. While the big oval exhaust outlets have appeared unchanged in the pictures.

On the mechanical front, 2022 Genesis is likely to get G80's newer and larger 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, generating 379 PS of power and 588 Nm of torque. It would replace the existing 3.3-litre unit producing 269 PS and 510 Nm.

Moreover, the other existing 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol mill churning out 244 PS and 353 Nm is also expected to be replaced by G80's new 2.5-litre turbo four tuned to produce 303 PS and 421 Nm.

The leaked images do not reveal the interior of the upcoming G70. Though, it is expected to come with detailed changes, including a redesigned steering wheel. It is also likely to feature a 10.25-inch infotainment screen instead of the existing 8.0-inch display.

In the midsize premium sedan segment, the Genesis G70 competes with the Lexus IS (soon-to-be renewed), BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. As per the leaked shots, 2021 G70 seems ready to make a debut, but reports indicate that it won't happen before 2021.
