2021 Nissan Kicks to debut in the US on Dec 8

KUALA LUMPUR: Only a while back, that is in May, Nissan introduced the all-new Kicks in Thailand and now the US market is next in line to receive the revised crossover. However, we are still not sure how similar or different the Thai- and US-spec models are, with all the confusing ending on December 8th 2020.

Nissan Kicks first entered the US market in 2018, as a replacement of the Juke crossover. Back then the car was highly appreciated for its looks, performance, space, and value for money package. Now with the 2021 model soon arriving on the Thai-shores, Nissan seems to be cashing on the deal without much delay.

Nissan US is numb about the new Kicks details - be it technical or mechanical. Thus leaving us with two things to analyse - the official teaser and the 2021 Thai-spec Kicks.

In Thailand, the Kicks benefits from a new powertrain setup called the e-Power system. Making the Thai market the first one to adopt and produce the e-Power tech outside Japan.

What’s Nissan Kicks e-Power system?
Nissan Kicks is an EV, with an electric motor powering the front wheels with 127 hp and 260 Nm of torque. The motor is powered by a 1.57 lithium-ion battery pack that regains its power via a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mill making 79 hp.

In short, the Kicks’ is a self-charging EV that needs no refuelling. Amazing, right? The question is, will the US get the same model? The answer is highly unlikely, but again nothing can be said for sure.

What we do know for sure is the car’s styling updates. The US-spec Kicks will feature a revised front fascia benefiting from the brand's massive V-Motion grille, thinner headlights, and stylish fog lamp casing. The rear end also showcases minor tweaks along with a new taillight. The same story continues on the inside as well, with revisions seen in the form of a new infotainment system and centre console with updated smaller shift stalk.

More information on the 2021 Nissan Kicks will be revealed on Dec 8, so stay tuned with Zigwheels Malaysia to latest updates.
