2026 Isuzu D-Max ready to get 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine; teaser out

KUALA LUMPUR: The Isuzu D-Max is one of the most efficient, reliable, and versatile pickup trucks available in the Malaysian market, holding around a 15% share of the segment. To further enhance its appeal among local buyers, the automaker is set to introduce a new, powerful 2.2-litre RZ4F turbo-diesel engine for this workhorse. 

Isuzu Malaysia has teased the upgraded pickup on its social media handle and started accepting registrations of interest. 

New 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine - More powerful, better fuel efficiency 

Globally introduced in 2024, the new powertrain is touted as “more powerful” and “faster,” and features improved combustion and optimised turbo settings, offering significant improvements in power and fuel efficiency. The latest Euro5-compliant engine churns out a maximum power of 163 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm, which is 13 PS and 50 Nm more than the long-standing 1.9-litre RZ4E unit. 

The new 2.2-litre mill should be available alongside the ongoing 3.0-litre diesel engine that delivers 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque.

New 8-speed AT transmission 

Alongside the new turbodiesel mill, the 2026 Isuzu D-Max will benefit from a new 8-speed automatic transmission, replacing the older six-speed automatic unit. The new gearbox comes with a wider gear range, high-performance lockup dampers, optimised torque, and gear shift map settings, which allow the drivetrain to offer enhanced start-up capability, better acceleration and fuel economy, and overall performance.
