5 things to know about the upcoming Suzuki Fronx

Malaysia’s compact SUV market is set to welcome a bold new contender in the form of the Suzuki Fronx. Designed and developed for young trailblazers, the upcoming Suzuki SUV stands out with its modern SUV design, spirited performance, and a tech-loaded, premium persona. 

Global introduced in 2023, the Fronx has already made its way to key ASEAN markets, including Indonesia and the Philippines. Bookings for the SUV are now underway in Malaysia, with the launch expected to happen in Q4 2025.

Coupe-inspired SUV design

The FRONX is made of two words – Frontier Next – which highlights that the SUV is trendy, modern, and has the latest features, along with a catchy name. It underpins the brand’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ design philosophy and features a unique aerodynamic silhouette with a strong SUV character, combined with coupe-inspired styling, targeting new-age buyers who seek a stylish and unconventional car with dynamic road presence.

Accentuating the sporty character of the compact SUV are chiselled wheel arches, muscular fenders, and side body cladding. The front fascia features a black grille with chrome accents and a rugged skid plate, emphasising its athletic stance. Lending it a sharp, modern look are LED daytime running lights and split-style LED headlamps. 

The striking rear end, on the other hand, comes with a sculpted upright profile featuring wide sweeping connected LED tail lights running across the width of the vehicle, creating a unique expression. 

Compact yet spacious dimensions 

Easy to manoeuvre in city traffic, the Suzuki Fronx is 3,995 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, and 1,550 mm tall with a 2,250 mm wheelbase. Despite having a compact footprint, the SUV offers a surprisingly roomy cabin and practical boot space (measuring 304 litres), striking an ideal balance between urban-friendly size and family utility.

The SUV has a ground clearance measuring 170 mm, which makes it suitable for both urban adventures and light off-road escapes.

The Fronx is complemented by myriad technologies, promising a superior, safer, convenient, and seamless driving experience. The global-spec version comes with the following modern creature comforts -

Built on the acclaimed Suzuki HEARTECT platform, the SUV is made up of high-tensile and ultra-high tensile steel, ensuring a strong body structure. Powered by an efficient hybrid drivetrain

Just like other ASEAN markets, the Malaysia-spec Fronx Hybrid will come powered by a 1.5-litre K15C Dual Jet engine paired with a 12V mild hybrid system. The setup uses two fuel injectors, a high compression ratio, exhaust gas recirculation, and dual variable valve timing and delivers a maximum power of 101 PS and a peak torque of 135 Nm. It is expected to be combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The SHVS 12V HYBRID system converts kinetic energy from deceleration to charge the 12V Lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motor to support the engine. Together with the Engine Auto Stop-Start (EASS), it improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

Taking on the compact SUV rivals

In Malaysia’s compact SUV scene, the upcoming Fronx will go up against strong rivals like the Perodua Ativa, Chery Tiggo Cross, and Honda WR-V.

The Perodua Ativa (priced between RM 62,500 and RM 73,400)  is one of the most affordable options in the segment, while the Honda WR-V (RM 89,900 - RM 107,900) has gained immense popularity among buyers seeking Honda’s reliability in a compact package. 

Meanwhile, the newly launched Chery Tiggo Cross (RM 88,800 – RM 99,800) has been receiving an overwhelming response, thanks to its sharp styling, aggressive pricing, and well-rounded features.
