50th Anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet debuts at the 2018 Woodward Cruise

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford’s Mustang Cobra Jet dominated the drag strips in 1968. Now, to honour its 50th anniversary of the original, Ford Mustang Cobra Jet just made its appearance at the 2018 Woodward cruise this weekend. The 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet is a limited edition turnkey racing car. Ford Performance Team claims the car to be one of the most powerful and quickest drag racing Mustangs till date.

The American Automaker, Ford, states that the car has a potential of attaining a top speed of 241 kmph and can cover a quarter-mile run in mid-eight second.

Eric Cin, the global director of Ford Performance Parts Team says, “From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA winter-nationals to our modern-day racers, the Ford Performance Parts Team continues to build on Cobra Jet’s success at the track over five decades. This has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

The 50th anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet has a special 5.2-litre engine that is based on the 5.0-litre V8- Ford’s famed engine. There is also a 3.0-litre Whipple supercharger, the power of the eight-cylinder is transferred to the rear wheels through a 9.0-inch solid rear axle. The car is also equipped with height-adjustable two-way coil-over shocks and had a low-drag disc brake system from Strange Engineering, a four-link rear suspension with anti-roll and pan hard bars.

The 50th edition of Mustang Cobra Jet also consists of a low-drag disc brake setup from Strange Engineering, a National Hot Rod Association approved roll cage, a stripped-out racing car interior with a digital instrument display and Sparco steering wheel, seats complying with FIA norms and racing wheels with anniversary badging.

Ford announces that the production of the 50th anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet is limited to just 68 units with a starting price of RM 533,169 and a maximum price of RM 738,234.

There are only two colors available for the 50th anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet that is red and white. The model can be fitted with 50th anniversary graphics and badging though.
