ASEAN NCAP grants five-star safety rating to Honda Accord

KUALA LUMPUR: ASEAN NCAP has given a five-star safety rating to the tenth generation Honda Accord after performing the crash tests, which were carried out in July. The luxury sedan earned an overall score of 91.79 out of 100, which includes a side impact test, a frontal-offset impact test, and inspection of various safety features.

Moreover, it also earned a score of 23.28 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 49.07 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), and 19.44 for Safety Assist Technologies (SATs). This year, Accord is the only model from the leading manufacturer, Honda, that has gone through the testing. 

Following the Indonesia debut in July, Vietnam and Singapore in October and the Philippines in September, the new Accord made its ASEAN debut in Thailand in March 2019. According to the carmaker, the sales in Thailand have been rising as it has received over 6,300 bookings as of October, which is extraordinary considering the current sales of D-segment sedan in the market.

It not only gets a revamped exterior design but also comes with new powertrains. The 1.5-litre turbo and a 2.0-litre hybrid have replaced the previous 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated motors. The 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine is the same that comes equipped with CR-V and Civic. It is capable of churning out 187 hp (190 PS) of maximum power and 243 Nm of peak torque from 1,500 to 5,500 rpm.

Moving to the safety features, it flaunts Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Low-Speed Follow (LSF), six airbags, EBD, ABS, VSA, BA, a multi-angle rearview camera, Honda LaneWatch, and hill start assist.
