BIMS 2020: Nissan Kick e-Power finally seen in metal
KUALA LUMPUR: COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way things operate in the real world. The same goes for the automobile world. Speaking of which even auto shows are not the same as before - no large crowds, limited media persons, and tones of preventive measures in place. Amidst such conditions is taking place the 2020 Bangkok International Motor Show.
After the 2020 Mini Cooper SE unveiling, we now have a much-awaited contender from the Blue Oval company - the Kick e-Power. The said car has seen in the news for a while now, some time for its spy shots and other times for leaks. It was in May 2020 that Nissan revealed the Kick e-Power online, but we missed to see the car in metal. Now, at the 2020 Bangkok International Motor Show, it stands in full glory.
The Nissan Kick e-Power is a hybrid crossover that looks nothing like the ongoing Kicks. It features the company’s signature V-Motion grille that is connected to the thin, long LED headlight units on either side. Chrome lining at the front bumper and large air intakes at the corner adds to the car’s modern design. At the side are sloping A- and C-pillar adding to its crossover profile. Further, the prominent wheel arches and roof rails make it look rugged. The rear end showcases octagonal-shaped creases (similar to the grille at the front), giving the car a unique touch.
The Kick e-Power offers a spacious cabin that is packed with the latest technology. The driver gets a sizable 8.0-inch instrument cluster, displaying all the necessary information like battery status and hybrid-powered figures. We also see a new Leaf EV inspired gear selector. Enhancing the cabin’s visual appeal is the two-tone black and orange cabin available in the range-topping variant.
Powering this hybrid crossover is Nissan’s unique powertrain setup, wherein an inverter, electric motor, and generator source electricity from a 1.2-litre 3-CYL engine. The e-Power system makes a maximum power of 129 PS along with a peak torque of 260 Nm. Further, the 1.57 kWh lithium-ion battery has four modules working towards quiet ride, increased fuel efficiency, and smooth acceleration.
On the safety front, the car benefits from Nissan’s e-Pedal technology and 14 best-in-class Intelligent Mobility safety suite technologies. The list includes -
- Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
- Intelligent Emergency Braking
- Blind Spot Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
- Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection
- Intelligent Rear View Mirror
- Anti-lock Braking System
- Electronic Brake Force Distribution System and Brake Assist
- Six SRS airbags
In Thailand, the Kick e-Power crossover will be offered in four variants - 1.2 L S, 1.2 L E, 1.2 L V, and 1.2 L VL, with a price range of 889,000 baht - 1,049,000 bath (approx. RM 119,669 to RM 141206).
