BYD Atto 2 EV launching in Malaysia on July 24

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD is Malaysia's best-selling EV brand with 5,400 units sold in the first six months of the year. With five pure electric cars (Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin, Sealion 7, and M6) already on offer in the local market, the Chinese EV giant is gearing up to introduce a new one soon, the Atto 2.

Yes, this is official now! The cryptic teaser recently shared by the brand on social media was for the BYD Atto 2, which is set to launch in Malaysia on July 24, 2025.

Designed for the youth and the young-at-heart, the upcoming Atto 2 represents a new era of driving, where Chill meets Thrill. It’s social, stylish, and fun, just like its mascot, Carpy the Capybara, who reflects the EV’s relaxed confidence and friendly vibe, says BYD.

BYD Atto 2: What to expect

Dimensions 

Positioned between the Dolphin and Atto 3, the Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. Compared to the Atto 3, it is 145 mm shorter and 45 mm slimmer. 

The boot capacity of the EV is estimated at 400 litres, which can be increased to 1,340 litres when the split folding rear seat is lowered.

Exterior

The Atto 3 is a compact SUV with a striking exterior. It adopts the family design language of the Dragon Face, created by BYD's Global Design Director, Wolfgang Egger. The robust exterior conveys strength and durability, while short overhangs and powerful body curves add a sporty look.

• Blackened pillars
• Sharp-angled front bumper
• Flush door handles
• Generously sized sunroof
• 17-inch five-spoke wheels
• Full-width tail light with a “Chinese knot” pattern shaped like a Mobius Infinity Ring, signifying endless good luck
• Floating roofline with a unique body-colored detail at the C-pillar
• Convex rear bumper with a distinctive roof spoiler 

Interior

The interior boasts a sharp styling and premium materials with generous space and advanced technology. We can expect eco-friendly, sleek vegan leather seats and high-quality materials throughout the dashboard and door panels. The equipment kit may include -

• Electrically folding side-view mirrors

Drivetrain, range, and charging 

The Atto 2 (known as Yuan Up in China) is offered in two single e-motor setups and battery pack options in the home market, as follows -

When it comes to charging, the battery supports up to 65 kW DC and 11 kW AC charging power. It can juice up from 30 to 80% in 28 minutes. 

Price

While no information is yet available on the BYD Atto 2 price in Malaysia, the EV retails between CNY 96,800 (RM 57,391) and CNY 119,800 (RM 71,027) in China.
