ERL to suspend KLIA Express and Transit services from April 4

ERL to suspend KLIA Express and Transit services from April 4

KUALA LUMPUR: The second phase of MCO has started from April 1 with more strict regulations. To control the spread of coronavirus, the government is taking all the necessary steps to enforce social distancing. All the offices, services and air travel has been halted in the country. As a result, the Express Rail Link (ERL) which connects the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with the Kuala Lumpur Sentral transportation hub is not getting the riders. So the company decided to suspend the services for the extended period of the movement control order, as reported by The Star.

On March 25, ERL revised the schedules of KLIA Express and Transit to run as a combined service with 30-minute intervals from 6:00 am to 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. But due to the severe pandemic, there are virtually no air travelers and limited commuters using the services, the company said in the statement.

As per the company official, "The company has consulted with the relevant authorities and decided to suspend its services for this period. ERL will continue to provide services to all its passengers once the MCO is lifted.”

Now, the riders can only select the travel dates from April 15 onwards through the company website and mobile app. To get the refund of the unused tickets, the passengers can drop a mail at the customer inquiry. For more details, they can visit the company’s official website www.KLIAekspres.com, the KLIA Ekspres Facebook page or can call at 03-2267 8000.

The firm apologized for the inconvenience caused due to this. It also advised the passengers to make alternative arrangements for their transportation.

The similar suspension of ERL services is observed in other countries also including Express Rail Link in Kuala Lumpur, Gatwick Express in London, Rhonexpress in Lyon, City Airport Train in Vienna and Airport Express Line in India.

The MCO is slated to end on April 14 in the country but a further extension might be announced.
