Final unit of Toyota GT86 sold in UK

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the iconic Toyota sports car has taken its last breath in the UK market wherein it survived for almost nine years. In its reasonably long life span, a total of 7,500 units of the 86GT were sold. Now, as the company sold the last example of the 86GT, it shared a rather optimistic cryptic message saying, "this is not the end of the story: watch this space for the next chapter.” Looks like Toyota 86GT will be followed by a better, powerful, and more stylish successor that is rumored to be called the GR 86.

What will happen in the future will be revealed sooner or later, for now let us discuss Toyota's iconic car's life. The 86GT was the first product of the Toyota-Subaru partnership and was a symbol of their alliance strength. It was initially revealed as a concept called the FT-86 and its production version was showcased at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in 2+2 coupe body type.

Powering the Toyota 86 was a naturally-aspirated flat-four 2.0-litre mill that featured direct injection fuel system and brand's D-4S port. The entry-level sports car was offered in rear-wheel drive configuration with a manual and automatic gearbox, making it apt for all types of driving enthusiasts.

In its long life course it participated in many races and won several awards as well. The latter included -Top Gear's Reasonably Fast Car and 'Car of the Year' in Top Gear Magazine Awards 2012. It was highly praised by top car enthusiast's like Jeremy Clarkson and drifting champion Fredric Aasbo used his modified GT86 to write the 86 logo on ground that was visible from an orbiting satellite.

It participated in GT4 class of the British GT Championship, British Rally Championship 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and more.

It goes without saying that Toyota and Subaru have agreed upon the next batch of twins. Subaru has already revealed the new BRZ and seeing the GR 86's patent bumper image, it's just a matter of time that they will see the new set of cars.
